I got the HD 600 two and a half month ago (great headphones) but back then I didn't have the money to get a dac/amp setup, thankfully my motherboard can drive them, I'm gonna get some money soon so I thought about looking into this.
my audio source is gonna be from my PC (gigabyte gaming 5, z97x)
the first thing is do I need a DAC? from what I understand yes but I'm not sure,
give me suggestions.
in terms of budget, I'm not really limited but I would like to keep it cheap.
thanks for the help

Please be more specific about this budget. We don't know where to begin.

Now, you're using the Hd600 on your PC, so I assume you aren't looking for anything pocket-size, right?

For the HD600 (which I have and love) I'd recommend a DAC and Amp, both. Nothing less than a Schiit stack to start. Modi 2 Uber & Magni 2 Uber. About $300 together. If you can afford more, I have further suggestions, but that will suit you very well all the same.

how about the objective 2 + odac?
the schiit isn't available in my country, with international shipping and taxes it's probably gonna cost the same as the objective 2 + odac here.

AFAIK that motherboard has a good DAC, DSP, and headphone amp section. Might as well save up so you can get a DAC that is somewhat cleaner, has at least equal channel separation, and can take an optical input, that way you can still utilize the DSP chip on the motherboard as it as virtual surround; as well as a headphone amp that will have a bit more voltage so the sound will be cleaner even if you get much louder.

Any recommendations on what to get?

Modi 2 (Uber if you can afford it) and Vali 1. $200 and your done.

I do NOT recommend the Objective 2/ODAC for the hd6x0 line. They do not pair well at all.

I'm not familiar enough with sound cards to know if my recommendation would sound a whole lot better. The poster above me seems to think it's pretty good, in which case I second the Bifrost and Valhalla 2 recommendation.
