If you live in the New York City metro area, come to Stereo Exchange on Wednesday June 22. Hours will be 11am to 7:30pm.

The theme will be portable audio or as they call it "Stereo To Go" featuring the latest products from the store's top vendors with many company representatives on hand to give demos and answer questions.

This will be an all-day event so you will have ample opportunity to check it out. Angel Resto from HiFiMAN will be there to show off the company's HE400i and 400S, Edition S, Edition X and the exciting new SuperMini.

For more details, or to contact the store directly, here is a link to their event page.

Angel Resto from HiFiMAN will be there with a number of HiFiMAN products to demo. Stereo Exchange is the dealer and sales will be handled through them. They have told us that they will have some good deals on the day of the event.

I work a little further downtown, but maybe i can take a "lunch break" and come visit :)
I'de love to test some of the open back planar models that hifiman offers too since i have closed back planars to compare to.

I have an HE-1000 and HE-560, so really don't need more Hifiman (though the HE-6 sounds interesting...). I'd love to go, don't work close by (Staten Island), don't think I'll be able to get there, too bad :frowning2:

Thank you Mr. Resto for the 560 / Edition X demos and for taking my feedback on HiFiMAN products.

Unfortunately, the rest of my tour of the event was cut short as I was kicked out due to my evil deed of buying stuff online.

Oh well...

You bought stuff online in the store that the store carries?

It happened to someone else two years ago.

I was there two years ago too. Seems like the old lady is the one to avoid. Well, more like the whole store...

Well, it went like this:

After my demo in the headphone lounge, I went back to the front to tryout the 400S and the Edition S.
When I was trying out the 400S, the old lady (which I guess is the owner's wife) asked for the 400S to hear if the drivers were blown out. I kinda overheard her talking about blown out headphones.

Then...

[Just out of memory, didn't record it or something.]

Lady: How'd you like them?
Me: It's alright, I already have those [points at the 400i], so I just trying them out as I've never heard them.
Lady: When's you next headphone purchase?
Me: I'm not sure... I have a dozen headphones already... [was gonna say more but got cut-off]
Lady: Where did you buy them?
Me: On...line...

I forgot what she said after I admitted my terrible habit of buying stuff online, but it ended something like:

Lady: ...so just put this [400S] back. I don't want people blowing up our headphones. These headphones are for our customers.
Me: But I though this is an event so we can interact with the reps... Can I still talk to them?
Lady: Customers only.

I'm actually pretty sad. This is the first time in my life that I've been kicked out from a store.

OK, the details make all the difference. I see from the 2 posts (read about the episode 2 years ago) that they are a bit paranoid at Stereo Exchange (and, with good reason, internet sales have killed many retail businesses), and they are inappropriately taking it out on potential customers. Especially on the day they invited people to a headphone event (I don't recall seeing any mention of "you must buy here to attend" or something like that), it was inappropriate to ask anyone to leave in the circumstances that they did.
Must have been embarassing...

Is it that lady at the front of the store?
