Denon 7200: Weight 385 g
Driver diameter 50 mm
Driver type Dynamic (Nano-fibre/paper
diaphragm + Free Edge)
Impedance 25 Ω
Sensitivity 105 dB/mW
Maximum power input 1.800 mW
Frequency response 5 - 55,000 (Hz)

Th900: Weight 400g
Driver:    50mm dia Nd magnet
Impedance:    25 ohm
Sensitivity:    100dB / mW
Maximum Input:    1,800 mW
Reproduction Frequency:    5 – 45k Hz
Weight:    400g (excluding the cord)

I know little of numbers, but do the specs point to a possibly Denon off shoot of the TH900 with an even further extended treble with a little extra horsepower? Would love to know more about this 7200 as I can never seem to run across a d7000 at the right time and unsure about the TH900 with the slightly aggressive high end.

More likely a redesigned d7k baffle/ tuning with a redesigned d7100 driver(note: just the driver not the damping nor baffle). Numbers dont mean much other than Denon still using the same voice coil and magnet design since Denon d2/5/7k series.

I would question whether the original Denon phones had the newer Tesla style magnets or at least magnets as strong as what seems to be common now. I used to have D2000 and heard the original 5000 and 7000 and thought they all had too much bass, apparently similar to the Fostex TH900 now. The D2000 I had was very boomy in the bass and I never liked it for that reason. Hopefully the D7200 will have a more linear sound than the original Denon series.

I emailed Crutchfield this past Thursday to see if they would have the D7200 soon. Once again they had no idea when they would have it. I think Denon dropped the ball in the USA by not having the D7200 available before Christmas. They most likely lost a lot of sales because it wasn't here. I seem to remember the original prediction was it would be for sale in the USA in December.

I think you're spot on about not having it available before Christmas. But as far as too much bass on the d5k and TH, I feel it's perfect on the TH, and just a little less focused on the 5k. I for one hope they keep the bass quality, depth, slam and impact, bring the mids out a touch more, and smooth out the highs, if blending between the original Denon and Th900.

I hope that they keep the v shape. There are enough headphones who attempt to be flat and neutral. I prefer cans with some character.

Looking into these as a possible replacement for my D5000. I really like their looks. Now I want to know how they compare to e.g. an E-MU Teak or my old Denon.

Let"s hope that Denon engineers have been able to recover the D7000s' sound and have come this time with a sturdier design concept that will make us forget the Biss2 screw and the no existance of spare parts for it...

If they achieve these goals, this thread is going ti be one of the most popular ones here on Head-fi
