Hi,

I'm a new member, so I can only post new threads to this forum. Moderators: Please feel free to move this thread to the Fiio forum if you deem it more appropriate to that area.

I've noticed in the early days of using the Fiio X1 that something like this happens frequently:

I pause it to use the bathroom or take a shower or any number of things, and then when I power it back on, it's lost my place. For example, if I am shuffling songs by genre, it's not longer in that genre, it's no longer on that song, it's no longer sort of got a record of the last few songs listened to if I hit back or forward, etc..

I'd rather come back to find it on the song I left it on in the place I left in (Remembering if I'm listening to an album in order, shuffling a particular genre, whatever).

I have a feeling that my answer lays somewhere in the realm of managing the settings to get my desired behavior.

What settings modifications do I need to make?

Thanks!

I'm curious - why did you feel the need to create a new thread for your question?

Why not just ask the question in the existing Fiio X1 thread?

Well, my comment didn't seem strictly on-topic for that thread, because the thread looks like it was about the product development and that kind of thing as they were making it and getting it ready for sale, versus questions about how to use it. However, if the forum culture or protocol says it's okay (Which I'm guessing it does, since you suggested it) to just sort of tack my question on to that thread because it's about the same audio player, I guess it's worth a try! :)

Thanks.

At the very least, people should be familiar with the device if they're monitoring that thread, so your suggestion may get me the answer I seek. :)

As far as I know you can't make the FiiO X1 to "remember" what song/folder/genre etc. you listened to before you turned it off. There is no menu point related to it either. (Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.)

Actually, if you just pause the music and use the lockscreen it really won't drain the battery that much. Turning it off for half an hour or so won't save you much energy especially because booting up a system is more energy consuming than just running it. At least that's what I experienced with my smartphones. (Well, OK a music player may not have to start running a crapload of programs when you turn it on but still.)

There are over 7100 posts in that thread. It's moved well beyond that now :)

Typically, general owners/impressions threads on head-fi for a new product often start out before a product is released.

But yeah. I agree. Blame Mython if they don't like it

On the other thread, they told me to do this:

Play Settings>Resume>Position (Position is actually the third option after "Yes" and "No").

That seems to work. :)

I've only tested that on firmware 1.6, though. I haven't upgraded to 2.0 because of some issues detailed in the other thread (Basically, their firmware update won't work on an exFAT formatted microSD drive, they want FAT32. The problem is all my microSD drives are loaded with tons of music and formatted the way they came, exFAT, the more modern format that the X1 actually is playing my music from right now. So, I'd have to reformat the whole card, do the upgrade of the firmware, and then recopy all my music, which would takes hour and hours, and then run a library update. Needless to say, I'm not eager to get cracking on that. May just stick with 1.6 for a while, unless a random microSD card falls into my lap or needs to be reformatted for some other reason, and then I could stick that in for the upgrade, and then put my current microSD back in.), and I didn't have the device early enough to have tested it on any earlier firmware, but on 1.6 that does the trick for me. :)

The only caveat small I'd toss in there is that option seems to sort of bookmark a play position that seems like it's almost but not exactly where I left off. Like, it might be 5-10 seconds earlier or later in a song. But that is a *very* small caveat. :) It's not like I haven't heard all these songs before. It being a few seconds "off" just for that one play if it powers down and I have to restart almost isn't worth mentioning. I am just glad I could get it to resume from where I left off- that makes it much better for my use case than it'd otherwise be. :) I'm really used to having that feature from my past audio players.

You are right. By the time I bothered to actually check what I was saying and found out I was wrong, you already figured it out. My bad.
