balanced input and trrs to trs addapter / converter and vice versa

Hi.
 
I would appreciate a bit of shed light on the 'balanced sound' topic - recently grabbed an hm 901 dap with a switch for N / Balanced input. What if I have a regular trs pair of iem ? do I need an adaptor or connector and which one ? in case I use a trrs iem, do I still need some adapter ?

Hello,
