i have high end usb cables. please let's not discuss the merits of them though. one goes from the computer to a vaunix power brick and the one going out goes to the dac. the vaunix is similar to ifi perhaps better. neither cable is long enough. it turns out my dac does not use +5vusb power. so i am wondering if basically "patching" two cables together through some circuitry is in fact defeating the purpose of having a high end usb cable? i would think if one is going to invest in such a cable it should be a single run? or does it not matter. it will not filter the data without the dac accepting +5v unfortunately so that is lost too. I guess i could get the ifi just to put the cables together and also reap whatever benefits it offers. however i am not sure that works without +5v either. thanks

I would really appreciate if someone could answer this. someone with actual knowledge of the subject though. I know this was an odd situation and thus no replies. if this is not optimal I wil have to now purchase a new $2,000 usb cable which I do not really care to do. again, please no comments on the merits of usb cables please. it matters to me. I am just not sure if I have now compromised the integrity of these cables running them through the brick. there is a usb coupler but I doubt it is the quality of the cables. the ifi is the same thing but the vaunix is better imo. these clean up +5v but do nothing for data. I am not sure what in fact the vaunix is doing to my data transmission. if it is degrading it.

you know what, this is over. I am sure you are all glad for that. my buddy made me two final silver connectors a/b female connected together with solid silver wire. that's that. I bet this thing is like $200 but obviously I am not selling it. I am darn sure that a $2 connector ruins a few grand of cables.
