Maybe I'm blind, but I haven't seen any info as to the location of the event. Anyone care to point me in the right direction? Is it at the same place in Torrance?

Everything you need to know is on The Source AV website (including the address): http://thesourceav.com/.

See you there!

CRAZY - that was the first headphone I ever wrote about, I think in 09...

Hearing their new 13 on my AK380 - DAMN!
It's amazing to hear how far we've come!!!!

Since this article - where I called the OG JHAudio IEMS "earbuds" LOL:

So yesterday was a surprising meet. Roughly 32 impressions both laser & molds were made. About 15 CIEMs were ordered and sold, mostly JHAudio Layla, Roxanne and 13's with a few UE Pro's right along with them. I'd like to thank these new customers and our regular meet attendees. Our goal of bringing the head gear community together is working and it's getting to be a lot of fun!

Another great event, had lots of fun catching up with old friends and meeting some new folks.

Listened to probably most of the iems at the event but probably the ones that stuck out the most to me were the JH Roxanne, Angie, UE 11, RM, 18, and the Westone W40, W60.

The JH I probably listened to the most, and I always flip flop but I dig the Roxxys more than the Angie. With stock tips I found pushing the tips all the way down the nozzle sounded tad compressed and off to me but moving the tips half way on the stem was just right for me. The Laylas I found they worked for me pushing the tips all the way down the stem. My ears are probably just weird lol

For UE I think I would flip between the 11 and RM for my taste in music. The 11 I would go for a bassy and fun sound as it certainly rocks there. The RM for a general all rounder sound. The 18 I was tad mixed between as it certainly was great but was weird for me. I talked to Jason and he said it was a nice between with the 11 and RM and I would agree with that.

The Westone guys and gals had a big lineup iems they brought this time around. The w60 and w40 were my picks as they had a nice reference sound. Wasn't really digging the W50 but it was designed as a different sound signature for sure from the w60.

Can't wait for the next event~

San Francisco meet this weekend, slight break next week then the Hifiman event!

Here are my impressions from todays event:
  1. Ether Flow via Cavalli Liquid Gold and an A&K Player (don't remember which one). My first thought was that the midrange reminded me of the near-magical midrange of the Ether Electrostat that I listened to at THE Show. (The Ether E with the Blue Hawaii and Yggdrasil at THE Show is the best headphone rig I've ever heard.) There was an Ether for comparison and the midrange on the Flow is more full-bodied and lively. I deliberately listened to non-audiophile tracks (Toto! Celine Dion!) and they sounded very good and non-fatiguing. Afterwards I found the track 'The Moon is a Harsh Mistress' by Radka Toneff. I remember this track from my college days (We used it to show off our gear back then) and it sounded almost tear-inducingly beautiful on the Ether Flow.
  2. Ether C Flow via Cavalli Liquid Carbon and an A&K Player. There was an Ether C for comparison and I heard similar improvements here: The midrange is more full, rich and (to me) natural. I have to say that this Flow is the best Ether C that I've heard and I'm very impressed by how clean, natural and non-fatiguing it sounds. I have a few open headphones, but it's hard to find good-sounding closed headphones and I feel that my collection could use a pair of Ether C Flows. Great job on both of these, MrSpeakers!

And after having read the flurry of posts (including Tyll's review) on the new Focal Elear and Utopia (and since The Source AV has them available for demo) I of course had to try those as well:
  1. Focal Elear via Cavalli Liquid Gold and A&K. First, the build quality on these is really good! They feel nicely and solidly built. Second, the sound is very dynamic and musical and not bright at all. I've heard these described as an "HD 650+" and there's something to that. They have some of the same musicality that I love about the HD 650. Am I ready to replace my beloved HD 650? Not yet, I need to listen quite a bit more, but if you're in the market for headphones around the $1K mark you need to listen to the Elear before deciding what to purchase.
  2. Focal Utopia via Cavalli Liquid Gold and A&K. Impressive build quality. We're talking carbon fiber, aluminum and nice leather. These look and feel like a luxury item. The sound is spectacular: Dynamic, transparent, and detailed while still being very musical. I'm impressed. I've heard most of the top headphones but I haven't spent significant time with each so I can't say that the Utopia is better than the competition. However, if you have $4K to spare and are looking for reference-level headphones you need to listen to these.

Driving back from today's event I had some time to reflect on things and I have to say that those of us who live in SoCal are blessed with not only a wonderful climate, but we also have a vibrant headphone community with world-class manufacturers and dealers who support our hobby. Many thanks to MrSpeakers, The Source AV and the other vendors for another great event. I'm already looking forward to the next one!
