New HTC 10--Audio Impressions
Jun 1, 2016 at 9:53 AM Post #140 of 476
My understanding is that HTC uses google to access and play music files and as such it is utilizing HTC 10's excellent stock amp and dac. I downloaded poweramp yesterday and unfortunately it uses its own audio engine with no ability to access HTC 10's remarkable amp/dac. This makes sense as the work necessary to access all of the various players' audio engines would not be feasible. Poweramp's ability to shape the sound according to your personal taste is a useful tool but if you are using a high quality phone and the 10's internals then your are not getting the best of what each has to offer. I'm going to convert my files at the source.

Did you try Poweramp from Google Play - v2.0.10.588? How did stock player looks like?
I use Poweramp 3.0 Alpha (.703 Build) - it has also experimental output, Snapdragon 24-bit 192 Khz.
Neutron can do 48 Khz output only (why they call it Pro?) through OpenCL ES driver.
USB AudioPlayer Pro do not resample 16-bit 44.1 Khz (if it can be trusted) files, but 24-bit / 96 Khz files goes through resample to 48 Khz.

Basically you found a 6 month old post that is out of date, and take it as current.  If you care to inform yourself, please visit the V10 thread(s) and read about the 5.1 DAC fix and 6.01 improvements that natively allow all apps to use it.  I don't see a point in arguing with you, as i have the phone here, can toggle the settings, and hear the effects right away.  You are welcome to disbelieve, but it doesn't change the truth either.   Carry on...

There's no need to lash out and there's no need to get defensive. The forum Poweramp is the official forum connected to Poweramps website: powerampapp.com. If you want to further your education you might want to go straight to the source. Maxmp is the sole developer of poweramp and he posts regularly on the poweramp forum. He and the moderators work hand in hand. And yes you are correct, the information I posted was outdated as evidenced here:

Yes I have version 2 and it does not support HTC 10's internal dac, which would explain why the sound was muddy, congested and 2 dimensional. How does poweramp v.3, which purportedly supports the 10's internal dac, sound? The HTC 10 is not yet listed as a supported device but one user on poweramp forum indicated it works. Can you verify this?

If I use Poweramp Alpha 3 and use the high res output experimental setting the Boomsound icon is not available. The sound level is much quieter using the 24bit 96/192khz setting.
