Hello All,
I did write about this issue on a Sennheiser HD 800S thread, but nobody seems to experience what I am experiencing there...Time to take it to the next level
I recently purchased a new pair of these headphones (HD 800S) and the HDVD 800 DAC/AMP combo. Sound quality is exceptional, however I observed that even when listening to low volumes (less than 9'o'clock on the dial) while using the balanced connection or single ended connection I get ringing in my ears in total silence even after the shortest session (less than 5 minutes)!
I understand that many will not know how loud less than 9 o'clock on the dial would be, but put it this way, it is below a volume level in a complete silent room where you would feel the music. Lower volume than I would listen to my speakers (which are not pointed directly at my ears). I even experienced this phenomenon when using LCD2 headphones and did not matter what amp I used. I listen to earbuds many times at even louder volumes than I do with these full sized cans with no ill effect.
So basically, full sized open back headphones seem not to agree with my ears and if I have to listen to them at whisper quite volumes (where I will not enjoy them so much) I guess it will be time to sell them even though I just purchased them!
By the way, I'm 38 and physically fit. Has anyone heard of this before? The only thing I can think of is that this "type" of sound is not natural to my ears.
Regards,
Shawn
