LZ-A3 Impressions and Discussion Thread

Hmmmm, I think hybrids and multi-unit BA IEMs may be better with single-end termination.

More listening required, but I felt a wider head-stage/sound-stage, but less imaging focus (and surprisingly the opposite effect on dynamics...bit muted).

It might be a combination of the balanced connector and the drivers/BAs having different ohm ratings. I read about this recently....negative side-effect on multi-ohm rated BA hybrids with balanced input...

On first listen, it was not the jump to squeezing the next level of sound quality out of these IEMs I'd hoped for....more subjective A|B'ing required.

Balanced is great for single driver unit planars however (flat impedence), I felt that for sure and most people report better dynamics/sound-staging if the amp is good quality on balanced. SE amps however can just be excellent by default if their topology is designed right, so it can get a bit fuzzy with balanced vs SE for sound improvement......doh !

Yep, with the amp I have and the opamp chips, the dynamic cone is getting too boomy/bloomy on balanced.....
I just went back to a single-end copper OCC cable and everything sounds as I remember it.

I think balanced would be good for the most transparent of source equipment, but my equipment is not working synergistically with balanced output to a multi-driver IEM such as LZ-A3.

Just found a comment about multi-driver IEMs and their multiple ohm settings for each BA and the dynamic cone on a different ohm rating as well. I found this as well with the comments in bold.

With custom IEMs like the JH16Pro, the balanced drive gives an instant boost in soundstage size and bass quantity and you get a much bigger sound than you do when driving in single ended. However, I do think that while very impressive in short listening sessions, the balanced drive only increases the phase inaccuracy already inherent in the multi-driver IEM design. The balanced drive also didn’t improve things like articulation, detail extraction, imaging precision, or bass control out of the JH16, and again I will have to go with the Pico Slim or the RSA Shadow for my JH16. >>>>

So back to single-end I go in the case of A3.

I guess the A3 thread will be winding down now with the A2S and A4s.
Just adding another photo to the thumbs....on to cable number 4 with
these IEMs...pure OCC copper which is what I use with my headphones.

Pure copper plate, would be very warmer and lesser highs sparkle

Pure copper, not copper plate.
Yes, warmer if you believe in cable differences.
