iPhone 7 Will Revolutionize Portable Audio for the First Time in a Decade

Hi Elfary, hope everything's fine with you! From my experience using the last W1 earphones of Apple and Beats I can inform that there is no battery problem, for me at least. Airpods with charging case seem to last for ever and you need to just plug them in for 1 or 2 hours to get a full case again, which you can do at night also, once or twice a week. Solo 3 practically last for ever with 40 hours battery!! And Powerbeats 3 last for 12 hours which means that you can listen for 2-3 hours per day (I don't have time to listen for so long in a day but mileage may vary), and charge once a week at night again. It's no big deal, since I have neither watch to charge nor tablet that you mention, just iPhones and laptops (which are different case).

By the way, since we both agree in liking the SE215, I need to admit that I liked the Powerbeats 3 much more. At least they have a much airier approach with a much clearer treble. Bass is there of course but in a balanced way with mids and highs, so that it doesn't overtake the spectrum as it somehow happens with the SE215. PB3 succeed to give a clear and open sound, which I cannot say for the muddier outcome of SE215...And if you think that PB3 are wireless, having just a rather short untangling cable to connect the 2 buds, instead of an 1,50 met heavy, hard and looping cable going all the way to your pockets, the sound result is even more impressive!...

I have the same experience with the airpods, its like using a regular wired headset in that i never bother with the charging, maybe once or twice a week charging i think, definitely not a hassle. I had like tons of bluetooth earphones before the airpods, the last is the jaybird x2 and while that is better when going for a long jog/run, the airpods beats it in terms of usability. I must admit i didnt believe the hype at first, but once you get to use one, its just seamless, like when shifting from one device to another to use the airpods

Rumor circulating today, based on a WSJ article, that the iPhone 8 will ditch the lightning port in favor of the industry standard USB-C. I normally ignore all the mac rumor noise, but I took note when it came from the WSJ.

Even though I've previously mentioned here Apple moving to USB C on their iToys, in retrospect I doubt that they'll introduce a standard USB C port.

The reason is that the MFi program is a nice little earner for Apple, and if they move to a standard implementation of USB C then they'll lose that.

As it is at the moment the lightning port is basically a non standard implementation of USB (now USB 3 on new devices), with bit of Apple's own additions to ensure that anything connected directly to the Lightning port is licensed.

Nope, a move to USB C standard would not be in Apple's interests. However a move to a non standard proprietary USB C port, while still requiring an MFi license to use it, would be.

Not everybody is OK with awful sound quality, and despite what you may think, airpods sound horrible. I refuse to use them, i even returned my pair because i literally, could not stand to listen to them, there was nothing pleasing about the experience. I have some headphones, that have this remarkable little cable the switches from one device to the other not only faster, buy simpler as well, you just unplug it and plug it in. Where as if i have multiple apple devices up and running i have to navigate menus to choose which one the airpods pair with EVEN with the w1

Good for you! You are happy since you found what you really like. You go on using these headphones with the "remarkable little cable":))), and leave AirPods for the rest of us who like the experience a lot!!! All the best...

So, late as always, I've joined the iPhone 7 (plus) party....

I now have at my disposal, the aforementioned iP7+, Samsung S7 Edge, LG G5 and Sony Xperia Z Premium - haha, I could set up a cellphone store, just with my own personal collection...

What I can say off of the bat, is that I massively prefer the sound of the DFR plugged into the CCK than I do the lightning port adapter with the 1More IEMs that are my current FOTM - the iPhone HO sounds muffled in comparison.

I used to use the DFR with a samsung Galaxy S7 but I'm afraid I got fed up with android volume issues and uncontrollable screeching whenever anyone rang me or messaged.

I'm afraid the iPhone "just works" even though it is expensive.

It sounds great with the DFR but I also use it with the Mojo, and that sounds fantastic too.

I'm going to really upset people now.... I have AirPods and love them too. Great for use while out walking, great interface, and fit really well. They also sound not bad :)

I'm currently testing all the HiRes apps, and currently Kaisertone is my favourite. Other opinions would be great.

This may be a stupid question lol. What is a DFR., CCK ?

Not stupid at all - I always assume people know the abbreviations :)

DFR = AudioQuest DragonFly Red (DAC)
CCK = (Apples) Camera Connection Kit (which allows USB devices to be connected)

I have both the USB2 and USB3 versions of the CCK - someone mentioned somewhere that the newer one sounds better - will have to try that theory out soon.

Oh ok thanks appreciate that. One thing I like about the iphone7 is to me I find it fairly neutral sounding. And has a little power to the phone. I always had the galaxy s7 and I liked it to maybe for other reasons. But I'm liking the results with the iPhone 7 and my fostex te100's. it's also a great pairing with the w60 too. If I might add, it's a little chunky these days with the size of amp/dac's out there now but also loving my fostex hp-p1- iPhone 7. The hp-p1 has an amazing dac section IMO. thanks for the info brother.

The SQ is already growing on me, I'll take it to work without the DAC tomorrow, and see how I go :)

Airline passenger's headphones catch fire midflight.

Oh my. This is the very scenario I told myself I was being paranoid about.

We need to find out which headphones were!! It writes they won't reveal, but there should be some info around from other passengers...It's an important info to get!!

I'm guessing they were probably some dirt cheap unbranded headphones. She was flying from Beijing, and there are a hell of a lot of electronic vendors there selling rubbish for next to nothing.

I really wish Apple made black cables :frowning2:

Wonder if this is worth the punt...
