Anyone has compared with WM1A ?
I must admit the DX200 is quite interesting to me, I do miss streaming greatly on the WM1A...

Edit :
(ah ah found @Mimouille post :) http://www.head-fi.org/t/815841/new-sony-nw-wm1z-wm1a-flagship-hi-end-dap/7410#post_13176004)

This might not be the one for me if it's too analytical, I love WM1A sig

I have been asked a number of times about a Parametric EQ on the DX200. It will be on a not to distant FW update for those who like to use it.

now we are talking, that is great news

It will only add positively to DX200. Provided that it is done well. Too early to say but DX200 is rounding out to be the best all-rounder DAP.

Hi all of you ! Do you think the dx200 sounds the opposite to the Ar-M2 ? I search the best player with android for my pm-3. I know the Ar-m2 sound well but what do you thinks about the dx200 ? I want to buy it very soon ! :) thanks!

I didn't realize the DX200 was available on their website. I just ordered it. Hopefully it won't be too long before I receive it.

you broke the record in the last 6 months in buying new gears :)

While balanced doesn't necessarily do more than increase power. good balanced implementations tend to lower the noise floor and increase signal to noise ratio. Those are audible differences that aren't based on distortion. Balanced has nothing to do with fatigue. You may be listening quieter because of noise improvements, which would lower fatigue. I believe in headphone cables too, but think most of their differences are due to impedance changes and distortion.

John Siau of Benchmark Media maintains the following "The truth is that a conventional single-ended headphone drive is technically superior to a balanced drive. This paper explains why single-ended headphone amplifiers are inherently more transparent than balanced headphone amplifiers"

Have you actually done any listening? I'm aware that an ideal SE implementation will beat any balanced implementation, however, we aren't talking about perfect implementation most of the time. What something can do in theory is different than what occurs in practice. Also, 6Vrms vs. 3Vrms, that will make an audible difference. The article linked also calls for balanced inputs, so technically, they aren't calling for something like a DAP to be fully single-ended, just the output stage. As I said before, the difference between SE and balanced might just be more power, but when you have differences in measurable stuff like SNR, distortion and noise floor, the question of theory vs. practice becomes totally moot. The output with better technical capabilities usually sounds like it.

My impression was that balanced sounded louder, not necessarily better, at the same volume settings

There's your first mistake. Of course it sounds louder at the same volume setting. The balanced output has more power. What you want to know is how they sound at the same real volume. To know this you have to volume match sources using an SPL meter, and control for headphone. People not doing this is why there is a myth that balanced is inherently better, balanced is louder, generally our brain perceives louder sound as better sound.

Benchmark has an excellent reputation, but I'm pretty sure they would be alone in saying that there amp design is inherently better than every balanced amp in existence. There are plenty of balanced amps that can compete with their products.
