Hey head-fiers,
I'm setting up a 5.1 home theater in our basement and am having trouble deciding what speakers to get. The reciever is going to be either a denon AVR-1803 or a Harman/Kardon AVR 230. I have a budget of $800-$900. Anyway, i've looked around a little and the Magnepan MMG-W's look nice, and was wondering if those would work well with either the denon or the HK receiver.

Anyway, if anyone has any other suggestions, they would be very much appreciated. The room is more than 400 sq ft. Used stuff is out of the question, because my parents are the ones buying these. I'd prefer if the speakers have a more "modern" look (brushed aluminum/maple or black would work) Also, i'd prefer floor standers, because then I don't have to spend money on stands.

How'bout Monitor Audio Bronze B4 System?
Check out: www.monitoraudio.com

For surround speakers, not many are floorstanders at this price point...Only the main speakers will be floorstanders and satellites the bookshelf type. Besides you really don't need 4 floorstanders to do the job. You said the room is about 400 sq.ft. which is mid-size room. You definitely don't want to overpower the room.

Thanks for the advice, but my dad wanted to hurry and get speakers, so we got an Infinity Primus system...
I'll check those out if we upgrade, though
