Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

Unfortunately, my LCD F and HD 650 see very limited play time. For the type of music I listen to the S performs better.

IMHO the 800S are more of a neutral sounding, evenly balanaced reference phone and do most things exceedingly well and a pleasure to listen, the LCDs and HD6XXs both have in comparison somewhat of a signature sound, entertaining and engrossing but neither could I truthfully call reference quality, same could be said of the original 800s.

  Arkhipov`s Laboratory UNIVERSAL KENO?

That's a Russian one. And the one I'm talking about is much prettier :p

The other one is also Russian the one that you asked before that one I quoted - Also the one in question is not a tube amp.

If you predominantly listen to hip hop, electronic, R&B, rock, vocals, trip hop, dubstep, then go with the LCD 3

Acoustic, pop, classical, vocals, live performances, movies, gaming go with he HD800S.

To a degree both can be used to enjoy all genres.

The 800S is technically superior.

The LCD 3 is more musical for more genres, given one choice.

The 800S will most probably be more comfortable.

The 800S is more precision built and will most likely last longer.

The LCD that comes to your door could sound very different to the LCD you audition.

This won't happen with the HD800S.

I somewhat disagree. I had a chance to audition LCD 3 and 4, and I agree with Tyll's review. They are too dark and less degree of clarity compared to HD-800S. They fall short wherever those features can be of great pleasure regardless of genres. I found that HD-800S is more musically expressive and enjoyable. I believe that LCD 3 or 4 would not be the first pick in this price range for many people. It may be the second to the fourth. For me, it is at most the third. (my second pick is Ether C)

I think that is why @potkettleblack noted that the LCD that you audition may not sound like the LCD that gets delivered.

Sennheiser QC is much tighter than Audeze from my limited experience, of the 4 HD-800's that I have heard they all sound the same and my GF's HD-700 and mind both sound identical while the 2 LCD-2f that I've heard other than mine sounded slightly different and the 2 HE-1K that I got to hear at a friends house also sounded slightly different.

I doubt that is my case unless a store manager didn't want to sell them. I auditioned them in a headphone store and they were available for audition for public. fyi, I plugged them into Chord Hugo.

Did you audition more than one LCD-3 or 4 at a time?  what I'm saying is that the QC by Audeze and Hifiman is not always the best and there are variations from one to another.

As for the sound signature it a personal preference to what an individual likes, if the HD-800S is to your liking then that's all that matters.

if you auditioned the LCD-4 without a top tier powerhouse amp you will not be able to properly judge them

I would add that there is huge difference, at least to my ears, in bass. I don't mean quantity, but whole presentation is very diffrent. HD800S has precise, well defined bass, while LCD 3 has more of a liquid, less defined bass.

Again, both are very enjoyable, but sound vastly different. It's most noticeable difference to me.

On my way to the shop atm for the hd800s it's a reason to get out of the house I might end up not buying it right now today or maybe I will I don't know.

Edit: sometimes even 10% certainty is enough - so yes I've got them hope all is well and I didn't make a bad purchase
