Hello all.

I'm new to the site and only knew it existed as of yesterday. So, if i've posted in the wrong section or i'm posting about something your sick of hearing about, then i do apologize and i'll try to get to grips with it as quickly as possible.

I'm seeking help for a new headset for PS4 gaming. I will use the headset occasionally for TV and music etc, but mostly for gaming. (no streaming, broadcasting or anything like that, just voice chat)

I know nothing about headsets/headphones and amps etc, which is why i'm here i suppose. My only experience with headsets was with the one i've had for 2 years or so, a Turtle Beach PX21. I was quite happy with these, for 40 pounds the sound quality seemed pretty good to me. There was no noise (except when using the expander), pretty crystal-clear, i could hear sounds my tv wasn't picking up and mic was really good! I know this because other people have the same set and they come through perfect.

Unfortunately, the earpiece has completely snapped off, which surprised me as i take really good care of my stuff. I guess at 40 pounds you can't expect great build quality.

So, i'm now looking for a new set for PS4 gaming. Something that's a step up from the Turtle Beach PX21's. I want something which can give surround sound if needed (i've never had SS so i want to try it) and something with great sound quality that can help pin point enemys in games like COD.

I'm not ruling out any type of headset setup, so i'll consider anything wether wired, wireless or whatever.

Here's a few im considering through research over the last few days -

1) The new Astro A40 TR's
2) Steelseries H wireless
3) Sennheiser g4me one

Until yesterday, i hadn't heard of Sennheiser. But through browsing the net, it appears there pretty awesome and there's something about them which is appealing strongly to me for some reason. But it appears there's a snag. For PC users, this isn't an issue, but for PS4 users like me it's a worry. The Sennheiser g4me one's can be used with consoles, infact they now ship with included wires, no need to buy an adapter anymore. But to get the best sound from them, they need power. Power which can't be achieved through your PS4 controler, nor through a mobile device etc.

The soloution seems to be to use a Astro mixamp with them. But people are saying that still ain't enough. And if you pair it with yet another device it gives noise. This is an issue for me. I don't want any unwanted noise of any kind in whatever i buy.

Does anyone use the Sennheiser g4me one's on PS4 who has found the soloution? Is it ok just to go through the Astro mixamp? Can anyone say that they use the Sennheiser's on PS4 and tell me if they are better than the Astro headsets. I know there better on PC and for music/movies, but it's PS4 i'm primarily concerned with.

So, i'd be really greatfull for any recommendations, help/advice which can help me find the best headset for PS4 gaming, which is good for music/movies too.

Sorry it's so long,

Thanks!

If you want to know about gaming headsets, Head-fi probably isn't the place to go to, a gaming forum would be best.  I used to do a lot of research on gaming peripherals and I know some companies I can list that are pretty popular for gaming.
Astro
Turtle Beach
Razer
Logitech G
Steelseries
Corsair
MadCatz
Roccat

All of these are incredibly popular gaming companies, As you may have guessed, Astro and Turtle Beach only deal in headsets and they are the most popular for that.  Razer, Logitech G, and Steelseries are probably the three most popular gaming companies.  Razer is likely the most popular overall, Logitech G is a branch of a company that makes practical tech products, and corsair makes computer parts and gaming peripherals.  If you're wanting to listen to music for good amounts of time, I would heavily research whether compatible.  A digital headset may not work with the device you want to play music on and most gaming headsets have an entirely different type of sound.  Also, if you're playing an FPS, I would recommend a surround sound.  If you need any other help, just reply or private message.

Astro Mix-amp and Sennheiser HD558 headphones and any add-on mic you like.

Sennheiser uses the same 50-Ohm driver in the HD518, HD558, HD598, PC360, PC363 and GAME ONE headphones.

The G4ME ONE uses the older 150-Ohm driver.
