Chord MoJo Impressions Thread

To test the Chord MoJo, im using.

Grado PS-500e
BeyerDynamic DT-1770pro
AudioTechnica R70X
Hifiman HE560
Fostex Th-500RP
Sennheiser HD600
Bose QC-25

I'll forgo the endless photos and wont bore you with describing how the Mojo sounds as-per each headphone, as you only want to know if you should spend $600 USD on it.

First, when you start paying above $350 for a dac or a headphone, you are buying inches.  You are purchasing a 5-10% investment in higher fidelity. You are buying designer sound.
In other words, if you buy Audeze you get thick rich bass and if you buy  Beyer you get extended trebles.
So, as the money goes up the sound gets different, but that does not always equal to "better"., as better is subjective regarding sound..... and the 5-10% that IS better, at a cost, is going to be depth, soundstage, resolution, and articulation...and for ME, that is usually worth the cost.

Now, the Chord Mojo sounds very good.
Its a fine sounding reproduction gear.
Its balanced, its articulate, its honest regarding the source, and its plug and play except if you have a "new" Mac.
Thats what the MOJO PDF file says, tho i cant confirm this as i have a 2011 MacBook Pro 17" and the MOJO plays fine right after i plug it in.

So, the Mojo review is :
.
The volume control is excellent.
Its fun to look at and hold and it has rubber feet on the bottom to grip your typical smooth service, tho it's going to slide right off your Aluminum Mac LT of course.
The fact that it cant be charge  via the same USB source similar to the Ra KEB02-ip is a less desirable quality and a curious design, actually.
Now, if you cant afford it, or if you can but want something that is also very good and with more or less the same features then there are 2 excellent alternative - options that i can lead you to if you want to check them out.
One, is the Audient ID22 , as it sounds remarkable, and is the same price obo and is a whole lot bigger.
The other option is the "sleeper" Roland Mobile UA-M10, which is $300 less which is the best you can get for $300.

enjoy.

I have no idea about the use of the Roland with an Ipod, as i only use it with a Macbook Pro LT.

Ive not heard the Cypher Labs Therorem 720, so, .....
But i can say that @ $299 for the Roland, it's extremely impressive.

These are my overall impressions:

As a beginner, I can say that the Chord Mojo has a pretty big effect on soundstage, detail and overall balance of a headphone mix, even through lossy sources through cheap(ish) headphones.

It is a lot smaller and more portable in size than you would expect but most of the size comes about due to the cables it needs connecting to it.

A good tip is not to purchase an Apple camera connection kit if you have an iPhone, but rather to buy https://www.amazon.com/Lightning-MicroUSB-connecting-Digital-Camera/dp/B01N77VPS3/ref=sr_1_1?srs=2529879011&ie=UTF8&qid=1492685156&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+micro+to+lightning instead as it is both cheaper and more compact.

With this in mind, the hassle of connection becomes more or less nonexistent.

Sure it does not have the features or inputs of say a Centrance HiFi M8 or IFI Micro DSD but it does the portable (not just transportable) amp/DAC role very well.

I'd say the buyer of a Mojo would be someone who wants a truly portable solution to high-end audio with either IEM's or Medium to drive headphones without having to stick a brick sized DAC/AMP in their pocket.

That's just my two cents.

Reviving an old thread. I had just pick up a mint Mojo with only a few hours usage on it. As good as new for 1/3 off the retail price. First of all, even though it is not as good as my main rig of Yggdrasil and Ragnarok (I think it isn't fair to compare with the top Schiit combo :)), it is nevertheless a very good tone driving my LCD-2f direct with ease.

Both my hd80 and lcd-2f sounds very good with Mojo. Besides the good tone, I find the controls intriguing and works very well. Mojo as an amp/dac has clarity and details in spades, textured, good soundstage and a captivating bass. I find it very musical.
