I've been running my HE400i's off my Marantz integrated's headphone out with very mediocre results. I picked up a used Schiit Asgard (version 1) for super cheap. It was so cheap I couldn't help myself. I realize that a higher output amp such as a Gustard H10 would better serve me, but I picked the Asgard up for about 1/4th what an H10 would cost me.

I'm pretty pleased with the results. I find the Asgard a little bright for my tastes but it definitely gets the job done. What I'm wondering is how much benefit I would get from a possible eventual upgrade to the Gustard H10.

Is it worth upgrading to the H10 or whatever better amp happens to hit the market in the future? Or am I deep into the field of diminishing gains at this point?

Thanks folks.

BTW is the Asgard supposed to run hot? I think I could cook an egg on it. It's really really hot.

I'm in the camp that believes you will get little or no improvement out of the H10.

Yes, the Asgard runs hot. Most say too hot to touch.
