XDuoo X3 DSD 24Bit / 192KHz CS4398 Chip Lossless Music Player

So, I've worked out its almost certainly the battery...3.6V last time I posted. A few days ago I went to check again - 3.3V. Put it on my LiPo charger at low current (~70-100mA) for the whole afternoon (6 hours at least!), the voltage went up by a huge (sarcasm) 0.02V.

I'll probably be getting the eBay battery to fix it...but will probably be looking to sell it once I've fixed it. (if anyone is interested PM me - Australia only though..can't post batteries or anything with them out of this country..otherwise happy to sell the player minus battery to someone that wants to fix it)

Seems like there was initial hype and love for the player, but time has shown that longevity isn't great....will be staying away from xDuoo in future I think, especially since I've not even heard back from xDuoo support.....

Hi, only if the battery is not damaged: not swollen, staying cold during the charge, I believe 100ma/h is too weak.

try at C/4 = 500ma/h (for a 2000 ma battery) during 1hour and check the voltage.
If it works, charge fully at C/4 then discharge at 300ma/h till 3.5V and repeat 3 times.
If the battery only is dead, it's not a big problem, replace the battery will cost 10$
+ some handwork. A bigger problem would be a defective li-ion charging circuit.

What is the size of the 2x torx screws of the back ?

Nah, I think 100mA is fine for this purpose (I "revived" similar Li-Ion cells which were 2.2V @ 100mA, the voltage does rise more than this LiPo.), but yes generally speaking it is low. In any case did try it on a bench supply at higher currents and voltages, still nothing significant happened.
In terms of likelihood, the battery being defective is more likely than the charging circuit spontaneously failing, as the player was working fine for about 6 months after I bought it.

Hello there, just got my hands on my X3.

In my opinion the sound signature is flat, realy cold and with lack of bass. Separation and soundstage is really good, but I find it with lack of "energy" on songs.
Installed Rockbox and will test its EQ setting and see if I can fix that.

cold ? I never felt it was cold. the 'lack of energy' it maybe that that is down to the pitch error you will be experiencing and yes, rockbox does fix that.

I'm a beginner audiophile and will try to explain what I hear from it, but english is not my main language so excuse me for any mistakes and/or wrong terms used.

But yeah, kinda cold. I enjoy more the sound of my Moto G4 Plus than X3's sound to be honest. As I said, soundstage and separation is really good but I don't find it fun to hear.
Mids and higs are kinda cold and sometimes too agressive, and bass is kinda hidden. Great for voices but bad in overall because there's no "fun" and "energy" on the sound.

I agree with you on the "cold" judgment. There is a high degree of accuracy but not much sense of fullness or richness with the sound, probably due at least in part to the X3's exceptionally low THD.

But I think it has great bass...very fast, accurate bass that dives deep effortlessly (I think maybe the output capacitor-less design is responsible for this). However, if you are used to more midbass warmth or just a generally warmer sound, it doesn't deliver this.

I stack mine with a Pocket Class A amp to warm it up! It adds a bit of euphonic H2 distortion for glimmer, warmth, and body. Plus a ton of dynamic punch. If you build one yourself (only $30 in parts) and stack with X3, you've got a giant killer rig on a cheapskate budget. A fancy Class A tube amp would warm it up too, but probably wouldn't be portable!

Agree with you about coldness. Did you try the Slow dac setting? I am using X3 in Slow mode pretty much from the very beginning and it's IMO much more pleasant sound.

May get trouble holding that when walking into Metro station.

How do I build one of those?
And yeah, maybe an amp will make it sound better, was thinking of a tube one but won't be able to carry it arround and I was thinking of using the X3 as my on the go setup, not as a desk setup.
Probably I'll end up selling my X3 and buying a portable DAC/Amp to use with my cellphone.

Hello. Have my eye on this X3. Any other comparable players that I should research?

Interesting. I compared both filter roll off settings when I first got my X3. I marginally preferred the fast setting at the time, and I just left it set on that ever since. But I need to back and listen again. What differences do year hear between the two?
