LG V10 : New ESS Chipped Flagship Android Phone from LG

Hope this post helps a little for K7XX (in comparison with Fidelio X2): LINK

I absolutely love K7XX's presentation  And it pairs very well with a good SS amp in the chain.

In my case I'm keeping my X2 until the impedance adapter (to trigger the high gain) arrives. If I get the extra oomph I think it's a good match. Right now with normal gain it's underpowered with some kinds of music.

N900 + otterbox brethren! Represent!

Its Maemo mobile OS is so wide open compared to many mobile OSes today. Its camera also still impresses me, not to mention the 32GB internal storage. Our similar phone histories places the V10 even more on my radar now.

Yeah, so many people slept on the N900: full Linux (with terminal support; I don't code though), huge storage (for 2009), plus great camera and screen. Wish every phone had its keyboard, stylus, and sliding door acting as the camera on/off switch. Had almost 100gb (with 64gb micro sd) in my phone over 5 years ago.

Still have my Nokia 808 too. Finally went android couple years ago but missed the 808's 41 megapixels.

V10 is the first phone where I don't miss the 808's camera as much. Nothing comes close to 808 in resolution (and the Lumia version lacked sd support; had a 128gb card in my 808) but the V10 has OIS and is fully manual (which I'm still learning). Once I get my 200gb card I should be set for another couple years.

As I have mentioned before, Onkyo DP-X1 is the last DAP on the earth...

We won! Now to see if they can source enough units.

However, just found out playlists don't work with the Onkyo either. Already knew it didn't support folders at all (worse than the V10) but now seems there is NO way to play untagged files.

great sounding phone indeed. i had two sets of IEMs with me when i went to the verizon store today.
couldn't really tell much of a difference between it and a very cheap HTC from using both in terms of system or performance, with the exception of the audio which was on a whole different level with the V10.
i tried both out with my Mrice E100 and Sony XB90EX.
i just did soundcloud streaming.

As someone said, a simple 3.5 extender triggers "the external device mode". And actually it delivers more power than the normal device mode. I'm using a very cheap extender for my Fidelio X2:

And now I can reach an almost too high volume. So, yes, it's a partial solution to get more power.

Let's see the impedance adapter if it helps even more. But now I'm sure to keep using the Fidelios.

You have to plug to the phone the extender first, without the headphones. The phone triggers that mode and then you plug the headphones to the extender. The external device mode stays and clearly I can get a higher volume with my X2's.

Another trick for this great (but kind of half cooked phone).

You all need to try AKG K7XX and V10 combo. K7XX has as wide sound stage as HD800. It's not night and day difference. It gets 87% of desktop DAC with HD800. I can't justify $1200 price difference...
I've tried HD700 too. K7XX is much like the real flagship while HD700 is like something trying to be less than flagship. K7XX has better design and durability too. For $170, it's steal.

Ahh it's as wide, well I've that width is easy to come by, depth an spatial cues are what the extra $1200 gets u

Glad to hear it worked for you.

How does an extension cable trick it into a different mode?

Good to see there's a nice work around there! Sadly I only have a 10 foot Cable xD

If you were using Soundcloud streaming, then you probably weren't listening to the HiFi ESS DAC, which seems to only work with some apps (LG's music app and Tidal, for example). Though folks in this thread have also pointed out some workarounds to activate the ESS DAC.

Good thing the store is only 2 blocks from me. i can go back and try out something that'll use ESS!

That is a good thing! My understanding is that sometimes the HiFi logo can appear even when the ESS DAC/amp are not engaged. Tidal or the LG app are probably your best bets. Hopefully that won't pose any problems in the store.

Also, WOW, Pocari Sweat. That takes me back. Lived in Tottori-ken for 2 years right out of college.
