can't hear distortions with third party player apps. What i am hearing for ? :)

Try this test track that earfonia provided: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2Mi2rrmALKFaXB0cjBCc0FqVXc/view
The distortion is quite obvious.

You don't need to be condescending, that is just rude. I have managed to keep above an A average throughout university so I think I am perfectly capable of understanding your posts. I did skip a page or two and just now re-read your explanation that Neutron is designed to ignore the OS and utilize the CPU processing for audio. It was my mistake posting without reading. Your contributions here are excellent, but twice now you have intonated that others don't understand you in a less than polite manner. That isn't cool.

I wasn't being condescending, I'm catching buses to depot so I can't give an answer yet, bear with me...

(My sister took the car to the gym, grr...).

I apologise if I caused offence, but it's not easy to type on the bus and travel :(

there is an equipment called oscilloscope for measure and display waveforms.

the probe is usually a needle like conductor that makes contact with the "thing" you need to measure, such as wires or metal contacts. the action of using the probe to measure is called "probe".

No, I know what you mean. I was just laughing out loud about how you phrased it...lol...playing music while having hardware opened up and probe around to see what is working what is not working lol

I'd also like to add that I'm sometimes brutally honest, but in the UK this is sometimes found humorous and informative.

I realise now that this may not be read as such.

Please do accept my apologies Sonic Defender.

More so, it's great to have such discussions as this just proves how awesome crazy passionate bunch of people we are when it comes to audio fidelity!

Edit:
How did my autocorrect get the word great wrong!?

Grate = great, stupid AUTOCORRECT...

No worries mate, and I really do enjoy your contributions. Water under the bridge as they say. I'm glad you are getting your DAP today, looks like tomorrow for me as mine is still in Toronto (4 hours away). Will you be testing other music apps or just using the Onkyo app? It doesn't sound like there is much reason to try Neutron for me anyway. Cheers.

I'm also cranky as I want to play with my DP-X1 NOW.

I've read, studied and helped so much WITHOUT playing with my own.

I'm a fan of cracking dry humour myself. Yes, it is nice to be among passionate audio nuts. It has cost me quite a bit of money, but well worth it in the end.

I'm going to do testing most likely tomorrow with other apps.

Today is just to listen to music in the best way I can using default Onkyo app.

I bought it for music after all ha ha!

LOL, that was obviously joking, but i could not think of another way to verify which one is doing the job. other than an official statement about this issue.

Muhahahahahahaha!

Did you go for fast shipping?

Did you buy any accessories too (DPA-GL033 tempered glass screen protector and/or DPA-PUX1 leather case)?

Did not go for the tempered glass, but went all out otherwise
Case - Yes
Fast shipping - Yes
Extra large grin on the face - Yes

Watching my email like a hawk (ps fast shipping is now 4-day shame as when I was hovering over the buy button yesterday it was 3 days!)

As they say Snooze you lose!

that's the hifi spirit. a part of me does not care what it uses, as long as it sounds great, but the curious part wants to know what happened.

(if the stock player has folder browsing, i may not even read all the discussions about 3rd party apps. and 3rd party apps could cause hiss. so onkyo, please at least state that you have planned to improve either one of it.)

Havent listened with good headphones atm, so no review yet, not even a comment on SQ.

My notes as of now:

- beautiful to look at and to hold.
- great build quality
- not a fan of the laggy volume adjustments, but then i dont change volume often once i find my sweet spot
- so many sound options to play with + EQ, love it
- slightly disappointed about amp section as on high gain with my apple earphones, im already between 115 - 122/160. So i dont think the Onkyo has the humpf to drive any difficult headphones.

thats all for the moment

Have you checked the volume limiter slider in audio settings?

That's really strange it was the reason I returned the XDP-100 (I was pushing around the same volume on high gain, with 38ohm/119dB IEMs) but that was a EU version issue not the Japanese. That would be really puzzling... which headphones did you try it with?

Is Apple earphones that hard to drive?? With my Yuin PK1 earbuds which has 150ohm impedance / 109db sensitivity I listen at 115-125 on mid gain. First I try high gain but it seem to has a lot of distortion so I try mid gain and it sound much better.
