For the ATH IM series, you need a large ear canal, letting it just hang and not getting a seal is usually the problem, I found the old shure e2c tips (can be found on ebay) and sony hybrids gives me a decent seal. The shure tips hare more rigit, stick out a little more to get the seal. There isn't much between the IM70 and IM50, I could only hear a slightly more forward mid range and better highs.

You can find the S5 tips on ebay, which looks like a thinner version of the shure e2c tips.
