How's the headband on these compared to the mdr-1a? And any crackling like those some 1a samples showed?

No crackling noises at all BUT I'm not so sure they're as durable as the 1A's headband, once I find my 1A's I'll check. everything is packed in boxes because there's work being done on my place.

I think the same panel gaps exist in the MDR-1A's headband, but they are more tastefully sealed.

That's clearly plastic molds fitted to a metal band that joins it all together, on the 100AAP. Not as elegant as Sennheisers solution(s) with the Momentum and Urbanite - but then I remember there is little in the way of plushness on the XL headband, and the M2's headband cushion might as well be made of cork.

If having all these plastic bits means the 100AAP can maintain the 1A's headband plushness, then I welcome it for the sake of a comfortable noggin.

What does sour the deal a little is having China written on it. The 1A is made in Thailand, which honestly... has higher esteem. I'd rather it say Sony or nothing at all on the cable though.

I hate myself for saying this, but I'm very interested in these headphones. For times when an IEM is too closed-off, but for on-the-go use, it seems great.

He probably means that his wallet hates him for saying it lol.

I have some dusty sony magic in the forms of the Sony V7's and 777's, but I don't feel like transporting them around for fear of breaking them. I'd really like some headphones that would be durable and portable, that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg, that would look good but not flashy, and that would sound great. These 100aap's seem like they might fit the bill!

I like that my Z7 is made in Japan.  The workmanship is truly outstanding.  But as much as I like my Z7s they are a little bit cumbersome on the road.  I was considering the 1As but I really like the look, price and early reviews of the 100AAP.  I see these in my near future.  Anyone that's heard them care to compare them to the Z7s?

I do, especially for portable use (I mean the black ones). Understated. Not flashy. Fairly flush looking. Headband seems to contour around the head well.

The most beautiful headphone on the planet, of course:

Okay I concede - those are very purdy!

I guess I'm looking for something more utilitarian looking for out and about and for at the gym, and the 100aap's would be more to my liking for those purposes anyway.

Anybody own both this and the MSR7? Still wondering how they compare.
