Some of the audio treats I paired with my QP1R @ the headroom exhibition this weekend in London. Too bad it only lasted for 7 hours....
It was also very impressive visiting an actual recording studio , it was a great setting for a great show.

Yes I agree it was a great show and having it staged in a great studio made for a very different  and much better hifi show experience! I found 2 great matches for the QPR1 - at a more affordable though still not cheap level the Shure SE8456's sounded superb and thanks very much to the gentleman from Shure who took the trouble to ensure they fitted into my ears properly! Just one problem which stopped me from buying the Shure's - the JH Audio/AK Roxanne II's. JH Audio/AK had 4 in ear universal phones on offer, sorry but the first 2 in the range  did nothing for me. Between the Roxanne II's and the Layla, I think ,Full Metal Jacket, I much preferred the Roxanne II's. Not that I didn't like the new Layla's but with the QP1R the Roxanne II's seemed the best match. I'm not just saying that on price - the new Layla's cost £700 more but  I think the Roxanne II's are a better synergistic match IM not so HO. I've pre ordered a pair which I hope will be as good as the demo ones!
I was very impressed by both of Questyle's headphone amps both the standard silver and the new gold headphone amp's. What I can't understand is why you have to buy 2 of the gold amps (at £3k a pop each!) to get balanced operation! Come on Questyle be sensible and offer a single headphone amp with a balanced input - you know it makes sense!
Best sound of the show  - The original Sennheiser Orpheus Amp/Dac/headphone, 20 + plus years on and it still sounds the dogs cojones! The new Sennheiser HD800S's sounded great - ordered a pair of them too. Other notable headphones were the Mitchell & Johnson Hybrid electrostatic headphones, very sweet sounding and comfortable. RRP will be around the £500 pound mark - a bargain. Kennerton's Magister offered planar sound at £700 another bargain. Mr Ether phones and the top Schitt Dac souned great  as well.  No I don't work for any of them. On the cable front very impressed by the Nordost Heimdall  and would buy but for their rigid 2metres only length - I need 3. Atlas's headphone cables also sounded very good and I may well buy some to match my new Sennheiser HD800S's. Overall a very enjoyable show so thanks to Custom Cable and all the exhibitors!

I believe the original CMA800 was a strait SE amp and the 'R' version-amid some other improvements-added the ability to be balanced with another of the same amp.  That being said, it would be great if they'd come out with a single-chasis version of two 800Rs.
What did you think of the gold over the silver versions?  I'm sold on the Questyle sound and might like to get some future products from them when I can afford something.

I thought the gold amp sounded richer and more finely resolved than the silver amp but so it should at double the price. The silver amp is about £1.5K and the gold amp around £3K and you need 2 of the golds for balanced operation which is £6K! - which is too expensive IMO. However while I preferred the gold overall (price notwithstanding) the silver amp was very good reminding me of the great dynamics and tonal balance of the QP1R portable albeit not as refined as the gold amp. Unfortunately I won't be buying one of these amps as the lack of a 4 pin balanced input is a deal breaker for me.

It appears to add a "volume direction" setting (the direction in which you turn the wheel to adjust de volume).
I'm currently rescanning my library... and the 5800 songs limit is gone!!!!
Tags are unchanged though : after "Artist", you get all the songs, no "by Album" sorting.
Ok by me since I name my files artist_year_album_track#_tracktitle, but too bad in general.

That is great! I think I will pull the trigger. Just need to decide if the Angie is the right IEM for me. Since this is my first, I may go with the IE800, but that is the decision that is left. HD800 or Angie.

Installed the new FW (1.0.5) without any problems. It looks as if the 5800 Songs limit has been increased to 9999. Step in the right direction, but with 14000 songs and growing on my two sd cards, it still limits it value to me. Not sure of the value of selecting clockwise or counter-clockwise to decrease the volume, but it has been added. Also, the firmware version number is displayed on the splash screen while starting up.

Now on to listening.

Updated to the new software.
Some nice changes but I still cannot delete folders only individual files on the fly.
We all have our quirky ways of listening and for me I listen to albums, delete folder and periodically remove micro sdcard and top up from my collection on the MAC.
Was hoping update would let me do that but alas still does not recognise folders under the delete option.

Have decided to sell and move on with the Fiio X7.
Goodbye little QP1R I will miss you but your UI just struggles to cut it.

Is there a .txt file corelating the changes?  I'm still hoping for the play-through folder option.
Also, I have a question about FAT32 vs EX-FAT.  Which format (regardless of the various advantages of one over the other), will let you squeeze more material on the card?
