Shanling M2 DAP

Yes I'll try it before I upgrade...I'll be anxious to listen to it anyways so the upgrade can wait :) How did the DX80 spoil you regarding the battery? Is the battery percentage very accurate on that one?

It seems like Battery percentage is going away. It isn't present on the Fiio's either.. So the DX80 is one of the few to still offer a Battery percentage..

And also one thing you will notice is the vocals being so separated.. My favorite part of the Shanling M2.

I said I wasn't going to cancel my order but I had another DAP in mind too and decided to get that one...the Hidizs AP100. Are you familiar with it? A friend of mine has one and it sounds great and it's built like a tank so I decided to go for that one.

Lol.. Bruce, we must be related.. Lol!! I had it for a week.. It was pleasantly pleased with it.. But I got it when I wasn't done making my rounds through the players.. It is a fantastic player. I honestly can't say anything bad about it.. It uses the Cirrus Logis CS4398, so it makes me happy.. Well, really all Cirrus Logic chips they used are fantastic.. And it shows for the sound it produces.

Only issue I had with it was, I browse by artist then go to the album I want.. Sadly that's not how the AP100 works.. However, to make up for it, And can browse by folder, in which I organize it that way anyways, so it didn't affect me too bad. Other than that. Build quality is fantastic, screen is on par with the X3ii, blah blah blah, etc etc etc.. Lol.. It's a very good player.. You should really like it..

How's the soundstage on ap100 vs the M2? the M2 does spit out rich details in music but comes a bit boxy in the layout (good surrounding depth though...)

I wish I had both of them (AP100, M2) at the same time.. But sadly, not sure.. However, I will agree with your statement about the rich details and the fact that the Width of the M2's soundstage is wide, but depth is shallow.. However, I actually love that.. Because it makes all the background details come alive to the foreground! :beers:

What a strange experience I'm getting... The M2 dap just particularly sounds well paired with my fx750s...

I finally got to plug in the Flc8s hybrids instead and felt a bit underwhelmed. The soundstage did widen up but didn't sound rich as the woodies. The dn2000 hybrids felt short in the delivery as well...

Anyhow I'll get back on this when I figure it out.

Edit 1: the flc8s are no doubt superb! They simply sounded better with the ihifi 770 + alo Rx combo
Edit 2: What iems do you enjoy with the M2?

What I find interesting, is the cheap/affordable Sony EX110's actually sound pretty decent out of the M2, as do the RHA MA-600, and RHA T10's.. The Sony MDR-XB50ap's sound muffled with the M2.. Which is strange because with the iPhone 6, they sound pretty good.. So, not sure why that is.. I will say the Sony Hybrids sound really good on the M2, such as the Sony XBA-H1's and XBA-A2's.. Probably due to the Higher impedance of the Sony Hybrid line-up. 32ohm (XBA-A2) and 40ohm (XBA-H1's)..

One thing I did notice, try reverting to Firmware 1.10, my opinion, the EQ is more user friendly.. I'm not talking about the UI being more friendly, just the way the EQ changes.. It's more tolerant of EQ adjustments.. The new 2.0 firmware is technically better, but the sound is more stringent to changes.. It is very quick to close the frequencies in the 200-750hz range. Which takes away from the open/airiness sound signature of the M2. As always, that's my usage with my equipment, etc.. It my completely vary with your earphones..

Okay, so, in general, I usually say I like the MA-600'a over the MA-750's.. Because of the thicker sound.. But after giving them a second chance on the Shanling M2, I have to say the Mids and Highs are noticeably better.. I guess I just forgot how good the MA-750's are. However, they are still lacking in the Bass region, just saying that the Mids and Highs quality makes up for it. Because the M2 already has a very natural analog nature to it, so using the MA-750's just makes more sense.. I wouldn't recommend listening to Rap, RnB, Trance or any other Bass heavy music with this pair up.. I'll still recommend the RHA T10's for that if you will be doing some Bass heavy music. If you're sticking with the RHA line.. Sorry, I just love their products..

How about T20 sledgeharvy? That's my go to RHA IEM. I stick with Bass or Reference filter.

I had the T20's, but got rid of them, to get the Sony XBA-A2's.. Which are still my favorites.. But I like them on the iBasso DX80 more.. It just meshes better with the sound signature of the DX80..

Oh, sorry, by the way, I did really like the T20's but I prefer the Bassier aspect of the T10's.. Hence why I was fine with trading in the T20 for the XBA-A2's..

@Shanling I know it's a long long shot; But it is possible to supply the source code and packaging tools for the M2 to check the feasibility of some core UI changes to the firmware?

The current tools to unpack and pack the current firmware can only give the freedom to change UI in terms of changing the themes;
I'm looking for check if it feasible to change the UI to some other extent for example the in the ALBUM search to show the ALBUM artwork next to the name, and so on;

Thanks

@Shanling: What's the revised output impedance for M2, and can you give us information on the revised testing method and what you switched?

4.7 Ohm. There is a resistance needed in the circuit.
