I have the Cavalli Liquid Crimson here for the (now ended) Liquid Carbon upgrade tour. Let me just say that if anyone feels the ETHER C is lacking any bass then they need to try it on one of the bigger amps. Simply stunning. I wonder if Dan voiced the ETHER C with the bigger Cavalli amps...

I think yes, at least in part.

Coincidentally, that's his adult film name too.

Cant.  Unsee.  This.  Aggghhhhh!

I had the same response to the Ether Cs, and IMHO it's not a question of basshead-ism. They are highly resolving but VERY bass-light headphones, and neither the felt inserts nor additional burn-in time made an appreciable difference.

IMO the bass is neutral and can decent in quanitity when under a warm source and/or when the recording calls for it. Otherwise it's going to be pushed back but still audible.

Actually, I realized something when I compared my ether c to the 580 and other headphones, the C highly resolving, macro especially and for many cases micro detail too, but there are certain micro-details the C smooths over and if you look at reviews citing it's clean/black background it kinda makes sense.  Background detail/noise is something that's pushed back on the ethers compared to alot of other headphone to my ears but this gives it a incredibly smooth sound and the black background many people rave about.

DanDorn,
Prior to full burn-in, I thought so too, but I'm now very pleased with how the bass filled in. I see you're in Brooklyn. If you would like to compare Cs one day, it might be helpful.  I would also love to hear how they sound on your Mojo.

It's true that I didn't put the Ether Cs through the full recommended burn-in time before returning them, so I guess I'll never know if I might have warmed to them in the long run. Suppose I didn't like the sound signature enough to go make the full effort up front. Funny you should mention the Mojo, because I do remember the thinking the Cs sounded better plugged into Mojo vs Hugo, and it's usually the reverse for me.

Mojo is a much better pairing...

Another Nighthawk owner! As an owner of both I'll tell you right now do NOT compare these back and forth because each makes the other sound bad, lol.

Both benefit from extensive burn in and need time on their own to fully appreciate them.

You'll rarely find an Ether C owner that likes the Nighthawk and almost never find a Nighthawk owner that likes Ether C.....ironically they're my two favorite headphones so I'm super screwed........

Laughed out loud there. Nothing wrong with finding both apples and oranges delicious, I suppose.

Rob Watts has the Nighthawk (and loves them) but also has an ETHER C on order (may have them by now). You're not unique. ;)
