I ordered the Gungnir MB upgrade yesterday and can't wait to have it installed. I, too, am interested in impressions comparing Gungnir DS vs. Gungnir MB.

I had a great time.  When my turn came to listen I chose according to my means as there is no point (for me) to listen to something I cannot yet afford.  I chose music from the available library that I was intimately familiar with for with music, familiarity breeds contentment.

The equipment is beautiful and that being regardless of price point.  The Lyr 2 and Bifrost were more than up to the task of pleasing me both sonically and visually.   With music one can play it by heart rather than ear if you will.  Speaking of ears, both the HD800 and Ether C 'phones made me smile with their reproduction of the music of both the Dream Academy and the Stray Cats.

For me, they allowed me to listen to the music and not the equipment.  Is that not the purpose of the means to an end we call  Headphones, Amps and DACs ?  I have enough noise throughout the day that sometimes when I listen to music I want to hear the thoughts and memories I associate with it.

If the music is new and I like it, rest assured it will soon have a memory attached to it.  Such reflections can be like chocolates in that even the bittersweet ones make us smile years down the road.

The equipment I auditioned was like being a kid at See's.  The other side of the room was for when my wallet grows up and I can walk into Godiva's.    My thanks to all connected with this event.  The little soiree at the end of the day reminded me of the Sgt. Pepper album.

A splendid time was had by all.

So this show was suppose to introduce 3 new products and 2 new ideas. This is what I understand so far.

Products:

1. Mjolnir 2
2. Gungnir MB upgrade
3. LISST tubes

Ideas:

1. Solid state substitutes for tubes
2. tube hybrid circlotron??

Does anyone else know what exactly are the two new ideas they were presenting?

Affordable multibit
New architecture using sst

Mr. MLE,

The news is that the cost of Quality DACs is falling sharply and rapidly.

DACs were the missing part of Superb Music Reproduction, they are doing the same work as Moving Coil Phono Carts in days of old :  they transduce bits into Analog Music, our Phono Carts transformed mechanicals into Analog Music.

DAC development in recent years brought us significant quality improvements at greatly reduced prices.

Schiit seems the only one's willing to give us the benefits of developments at very low ( everyman ) price points.

Tony, you are correct. I added a recapped Monarchy Audio M22B R2R DAC, truly was my missing link. Beautiful tone, micro and macro dynamics, soundstage, etc.

I am holding on to my Uber Bifrost, hoping the next announcement will be an R2R upgrade board.

Hi OldRoadToad,

Glad you enjoyed your experience at the meet.  Did you by any chance have the opportunity to try the Lyr 2 with the LSST tubes ?  If so would you share your impressions ?

Thanks.

I ordered a pair and will give my impression of them in my Lyr once landed. I figured they were inexpensive enough to give a try. I'm very curious as to how they will sound compared to glass.

Looking forward to reading your impressions.!

Mistah zabzaf,

You're our "Go-To" authority on this MB stuff.

We'll soon be seeing Senior Katz's take on all that gear ( up in Montana ).

Overall, I'm feeling, Schiit seem to be owning the DAC & Headphone Amplification World ( here in the States ).  ( "If you don't own Schiit, you ain't got ****" ) .

I'm hearing hints from distant places that the Audio-gd outfit is pretty much the Schiit equivalent in Asia.  Hmm ( leaders in technology & pricing ).

Perhaps, just maybe, it seems to be looking like :  We got a two horse race leading a large field of contestants.  ( in Automotive spheres it'd be like  Mustang vs. Camaro  or GM vs. Toyota,  but then came VW outa nowhere!  ).

With a World market share in the Billions of Dollars, we should be seeing everybody and their brothers targeting some of it.

For the moment :   Schiit leads by a few lengths !

But this is a Marathon Event.

I'll be staying loyal to Schiit Asgard2 , Sennheiser HD580s/wireless & JDS for a while longer

I'm already Addicted to my Music, even better Music might overdose me.

ps.1 )  Dr. Jon Pohl still talks about that A&K 240

ps.2 )   Bob Katz reports DACs have transparency ( like a clear pane of Glass ) , better DACs feature improved transparency.

ps. 3 ) I'm thinking that we don't have appropriate terminologies to adequately describe DACs.  Seems like we've returned to our Age-old issues with transducers being the weak link.  The Harmon people say our trouble lays ( or is it "lies", I've always had trouble with that )  in the recording process.
