Guess what arrived just hour ago?  Yes,  the new T1. Was going to video unboxing but couldn't help myself...emotions got best of me and I opened them.

Very good looking pair of headphones construction is top and so is comfort. Now to sound..:

The mid range is fabulous and even mid range bass is excellent. Voices sound realistic and organic. Compared to my HD800 they actually sound slightly darker and more pleasant to listen. The sound is fun and somewhat addictive. Very effortless, very detailed with that perfect bass body. They are for sure more bassy then HD800 but not bass monster. The sound stage is smaller then HD800 for sure but not by much. Ears are able to process and enjoy what I'm hearing instead of being overwhelmed.  Sound stage feels natural and not over the top. Overall very , very good sounding pair of headphones. They look and smell (yes, new smell) amazing.

The detachable cables are also a welcome change and quality of cable seems pretty good. Cable is not thick or heavy and does not drag headphone anywhere.

These headphone are most definitely worth getting or audition.

My 1st impression is quite different, I feel the hight is quite harsh and dry especially listen to some electronic dance music while sersiouly lack the depth of the bass. Hope it just lack of certain bruning time.

Give it some time. I felt the same about the bass performance of the new T1. But even the old T1 performs better than that. So I'm quite sure that it'll improvesignificantly  after some break in.
I feel different about the harshness. The new T1 manages to sound more less harsh. Songs that I used to cringe with the old T1 sounded much more complaisant now. In my current chain, even my Fostex TH900 sounds more abrasive. I really hope that break in won't mess that up.

Electronic has some high treble, if not well recorded it can sound harsh. Tube amp would be a good idea.

I've grown to really like Electronic music, and what I have found is that well produced and recorded electronic music is hard to find these days. Everything is compressed to a wall of noise and that can make the sound harsh on really detailed headphones. Those bassy phones are usually muffled so you don't notice. Try evaluating the T1 with MCMXC .A.D by Enigma (non remastered versions) or anything by Mitch Murder. Their music is usually well produced and a good test for the T1.

Yeah thats true, but T1 is a good allrounder so you will be fine. I m electronic fan too, but use mostly warmer HPs.

I don't own old T1, the other full-size open headphone i have is philips X2, Compared to fully break-in X2, yea, new T1 is a little bit dry and harsh at the beginning. I don't even want to compare those two, it's an unfair battle no matter their league or price. Burning more time right now, much less harshness and more silky smootheness even playing same electronic dancing song. Can't wait to see the final result.

My harshness test is done with I Turn to You - Melanie C. Even though I really like that song, the recording is pretty horrible. It can sound harsh even with smooth headphones. Thus, it's really a good indicator how harsh a headphone is. Be my guest to try...

If the recording is known to be harsh, then the smooth headphone is not reproducing it correctly. The T1 is a detailed headphone and is accurately reproducing the harshness.

That song sounds smooth on TIDAL :)

If your using high end headphone with amp why waste time on poor source?

I prefer Deezer but I also have the album (Northern Star) in CD. It's not mastered very well. Maybe Tidal smooths things by some kind of dsp?..

I agree to an extent. These are not monitoring headphones (like DT 1770 Pro) so while accuracy and detail is important, some level of smoothness is preferred. No one wants monitor-like analytical sound from audiophile headphones.

I find the original T1's extremely smooth with good recordings, there is no inherent harshness to them whatsoever, they just reproduce what is on the recording. In comparison my DT770Pro 250's are more harsh, sharp, possibly quicker and more detailed sounding, but lack the warmth or the T1's and they sound sterile and thin in comparison. That's a headphone that has inherent sharpness built in, and even sounds fatiguing on really good recordings, it almost screams "I'm a pro headphone".
