Now, if only there was a comparison with the old version by the same author using the same measuring equipment, that would be really interesting.

One more comment regarding the comfort of these:

The new velours pads are extremely comfortable. They are a tiny bit softer than the old T1 pads. Still not as soft as DT880 earpads though. The headband and the artificial leather padding is of similar softness as the old headband but a lot less grippy. Overall a slight increase in comfort IMO due to the softer earpads.

FYI  ear pads for the T-1 and 880 are exactly the same and come in 2 colors.

Did you confirm this yourself or did you just read it and assumed things on your own?

Maybe I need to clarify that I meant the DT880 grey velours pads that come with the headphones.

The old T1 velours pads  definitely feel different from the DT880 grey pads. I am pretty sure that the new T1 pads are different from the DT880 grey pads too. Especially since Beyerdynamic said they made a few changes on the velours pad. See http://support.beyerdynamic.com/hc/en-us/articles/203829842-What-s-the-difference-between-the-T-1-of-1-and-2-Generation-

One explanation could be a slight difference in earcup sizes so that although the pads are the same, they get more stretched on the T1 and don't feel so soft on the ears. I would like to test this myself but I don't have a DT880 here unfortunately.

Maybe black velours and grey velours are just different. You can see that on the link for grey pads they don't include the T1's after all. Plus, there is a different in net weight. Again, would be nice to confirm this too.......

Just got my T1 2nd. Still burning it. But serious think I should upgrade my amplifier but power is good enough to push this can. I'm using ARCAM irDAC -- Lehmannaudio Rhinelander -- streaming Tidal.

I own Philips X2 before, so that's the only comparison I can have, and I prefer to burn for a while before I make any controversial comments. I listen to vocal Jazz and orchestral classic a lot, so will leave impression later. I will begin to burn with Peggy Lee's "I'm just wild about Harry". :)

But upload some pictrues to "show off" is a glad thing to do. xD

Quite new here, so you can check the picture through those dropbox link, and I'm noob in photography, just iphone photo lvl. So dont be too demanding.

Morever,

I also telephoned to Beyerdynamic headquarter, forturnately, the guy picked up the phone claims that he is the project mangager for T1, once I asked him about the Rhinelander power efficiency for the new T1, he said that will be good enough. However, as the employee of Beyerdynamic, he still suggested me to try their A20 amplifier, which will be perfect for the T1, but a little bit surprised he didn't mention their flagship amp A2.

What do you think guys? I just don't know the comparsion between rinderlander lvl those entrance decent amp and more advanced amp like Lehmann linear...

We jumpin from comfort to sound now?

No they dont sound darker....maybe only if the planets align

everyone knows that black earpads sound darker than grey earpads sound darker than white earpads. =P easiest mod to get your headphones to sound darker is to get a black felt tip marker and color your earpads midnight black :)

what about red earpads?

and will rainbow colored earpads allow for a change of the sound depending on what angle you turn them?

please do tell if you know

ahhh... the red earpads. the holy grail of earpads. the subtle warm underlying tonality blended with a touch of aggressiveness gives a newfound sense of passion & energy to your sound.

i would advise against rainbow colored earpads. can add a touch of energetic sparkle, but a bit too fatiguing for long-term listening.

the really best earpads are the vintage '81 red earpads with black stitching produced in Denmark. A bit more bite to the sound and cool spaciousness that really heightens musical enjoyment

=)
