Hey everyone,

A little background. I currently have a pair of Seinnheiser Momentums. Not the new ones, but the older generation. I got these in 2013, and they are pretty awesome. Except, they are on-ear, and they tend to hurt my ear due to the pressure after about an hour. So I've decided to find a pair of closed headphones.

One thing I will mention: I will probably be buying used. Here in Japan, there are a couple of shops here that sell a huge swath of used headphones for a good price. My budget is ultimately $300 USD, but I might be able to find something up to the $500 dollar range, but used, here in Japan.

However, I want to point out that I don't mind spending less if the headphone is good.

I also need to point out that, while I will be using them at home, I will also be using them outside of the house. I use headphones while studying and programming, so portability is a bit important, as well as sound isolation. I don't think an amp is in the horizon.

I use my headphones with my mac, and at home, I sometimes use my CD player as well and listen to more lossless files. But, out and about, I do enjoy listening to random music on youtube sometimes.

Furthermore, my genre. I tend to listen to classical type of music as well as trance/electronic. Sometimes some rock and reggae here and there. Chinese music as well (which is kind of like classical, just with more high tones like the erhu and occasional drums).

Here is a quick list of phones that I have tried so far

P7's ( the comfort was meh)
some Audio Technicas. The new M-something is out here, for about 30,000 yen (or around 240 USD) but I found the comfort to be just ok, while the sound isolation was also just ok. The M-50's isolation and comfort seemed better to me, which was weird to me because the other, new ones are about 100 USD more expensive.
And a whole slew of others.

Shure 940s. I liked the comfort and isolation. This one is on the possible list.

And I have to say, I tried the new Oppo P-3s. God I loved how they sounded and how super, super comfortable they were. However, they are also SUPER expensive here in Japan (60,000 yen, or about 480, 490 USD) and while I would love to buy them, I just cant justify it. So, unless they show up used somewhere for an insane cheap price, that is off the list. I think an amp would be needed for them too.

So.. there you go. I guess I'm probably asking a lot, but I want to narrow my choices down. I'm not very educated in this field, so... yeah. There you go. I want to get something I will be good with for a few years, as I don't make big purchases like this often.

An update: I went to the headphone shop that I like here in Osaka, Japan. http://www.e-earphone.jp/headphone

They pretty much have probably about a million dollars worth of headphones and equipment here. I think the most expensive thing I saw in there was a 7,000 dollar MP3 player. And then there are the amps...

Anyways, the 店員 there were really helpful. The girl let me try out several headphones for a couple of hours.

I bought a used pair of Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro. The mids seemed a little... well, low, I think, but overall sounds great. And the main reason I got it was because it is sooooo super comfortable.

Because I got the earphones for only about 140USD (16,800yen, about) I got a small amp for about 50 USD to go along with it.
