Audio GD Master-11(Combination from Master 7 and Master 9)

Figured out my prior issue with the PLL sounding better than the SU-1 clock.  Helps to use the DIP switch on the bottom of the SU-1 to turn on the clock output. (Sigh)  Now I'm wondering how many others never turned on the clock on the SU-1 for i2s connections.  Night and day difference.  I'm at a 20-25% improvement in sound subjectively compared to the Amanero.  Do not hesitate to get the SU-1 to compliment the M11.  I have no affiliation with Kitsune, but that's where I got mine - domestic shipping and a coupon code on their site.  Good luck guys.  I have no desire to upgrade anything.  Dare I say end-game?  Nah, I won't jinx myself, but this is everything I could have hoped for and then some...

Win 10 laptop (Tidal) > 6ft Supra USB > iFi iUSB 3.0 > 3ft Supra USB > Singxer SU-1 (with clock switch turned on, lol) > 1ft WireWorld UltraViolet 5.2 HDMI Cable > M11 > 5ft Norne Audio Draug2 > LCD-4

Switch 5 is the word clock, which according to the Singxer manual is output from the BNC connector..

From the Manual:

Switch 5 is to configure the clock output mode, OFF the clock output MCLK, ON the clock output WCK.

WCK does typically refer to the BNC out in the manual.  No idea why.  My subjective results:

PLL enabled on M11 - Good
PLL disabled on M11; Switch 5 off - Harsh treble
PLL disbaled on M11; Switch 5 on - Excellent - smoothest and largest soundstage

My SU-1 is wired wrong? I prefer me some jittery sound?  I dunno..

Can't wait to try out the new DSP when it releases... Sounds promising :)

Will be nice to try all the other sampling modes that M11 was capable of but we couldn't use because of the channel imbalance issue.

Also have a Singxer SU-1 on the way so will get to see what all the fuss is about with that as well :D

I also have a related question, but I have the Audio gd Reference 5.32, which is eligible for this upgrade. I am ordering the USB Blaster, but what I do not understand is whether I shall have to send my unit somewhere for the DSP upgrade.  Is this an upgrade the user can do on his/her own, or does he have to send the DAC somewhere (to Kingwa?) for the full upgrade?

From what I'm inferring, you can send it in for the company to upgrade the FPGA themselves, with their own USB blaster.

The other option is wait for King Wa to post the upgraded firmware and instructions online.
If you have your own USB blaster you should be able to do it yourself, 90% sure.

DSP v7. There are some details on the Audio-gd website. From what I understand it will be for the M7, M11 and DAC-19.

Just noticed a new update for the NOS versions of these DAC's:

"NOS 7 , NOS 11 and NOS 19 had update the Ver 2 DSP software since Oct. 12th.2016
The Ver 2 DSP software had improve on the timing performance, hence can support high res music better and working better on high oversampling input, users can hear more better detail in sound quality . And the new software had addition the 3rd Nos mode for users choice for their favorite taste."

Good thing I haven't update my M11 to NOS11 yet, kinda enjoy the flexibility with going NOS -> 8x.  I'm at 2x now and much prefer the warmer signature.  NOS works for me too, but I prefer 2x more.

Do you get channel imbalance at 2x? I tried the NOS setting a while back and had imbalance so I just went back to stock settings.

The good thing about the new DSP is that it is supposed to solve these issues so that there is no imbalance.

I didn't notice any imbalance with 2x or NOS, that was with my old PC.  I recently upgraded and need to try NOS again.  2x still working fine.

Really? Thats interesting. When I tried it the imbalance was very apparent and I have read responses from others stating the same. Wonder what causes it.

The channel imbalance has been solved with new DSP v7 and you can now set it to NOS (No Oversampling) without issues. See also this story: http://www.magnahifi.com/index.php/uk/?option=com_content&view=article&id=117&tmpl=component

The NOS11 with greater micro detailed sound and enhanced dynamics can be a real killer!!

PLL enabled on M11 - Good
PLL disabled on M11; Switch 5 off - Harsh treble
PLL disbaled on M11; Switch 5 on - Excellent - smoothest and largest soundstage

I received my SU-1 yesterday, did some testing with my M7.
MCLK/WCK did nothing for me. You can actively toggle this switch when using HDMI I2S and it does nothing.
I rebooted the SU-1 to make sure it didn't need that to apply the change, still no difference.

I can confirm the PLL enabled/disabled sound difference.

PLL enabled: Softer edges, smooth, while maintaining top tier performance*.

PLL disabled: More micro-detail, but etched. Better instrument separation and 3D spatial placement (soundstage). Treble is bit wonky (doesn't sound musically natural), maybe I'll have to let the SU-1 burn in or something.

*While I was applying the PLLEN jumper, I decided to leave the M7 open and A/B jumper combinations. I took many examples of the settings from this thread, and a few combos I tried myself.
I found the most neutral was default settings. Default being bypass jumper on, everything else off.

Most of the jumper settings weren't as simple as warm v.s. neutral, there was nuisances. To make it simple tho, they could be put into those broad categories.

(subjective ratings)
warm -> neutral -> bright

Jumpers for NOS (bypass off) -> Bypass jumper on / combo of others -> bypass jumper on / all others off (factory default) -> bypass jumper on / pllen on (using SU-1 clock)

So it has been storming here past couple days. No power outs yet but I was curious as to what would happen if you have your amp left turned on, and the power were to go out and come back on. The amp power switch would obviously remain in the on position so when the power comes back, would any harm happen to the amp? Could the sudden coming back on of electricity cause some kind of pop that would have the potential to harm connected headphones?
