The title says it all :p
I have a limited budget so i will only buy a soundcard if it makes a rather big difference. And if i buy one, i want it to be a Good one, probably like the Xonar STX. I only need posicional audio and since the AD700x have Open Back, they have a Good soundstage. Thanks for the help.

Depends whether or not the game has programming to utilize soundcard hardware functionality for positioning etc. Otherwise, I don't think you'll be able to tell the difference with onboard vs dedicated since positioning would be done software-side and then fed through to your headphones.

I have got a xonar essence STX and I play CSGO (supreme/global). Sound is much better with the sound card I think, I often hear things a lot of people do not. However, It's also a bit hard to get used to the positional audio at first. I don't know if it's CSGO or the sound card but sometimes it's really hard to figure out where something is coming from, but with the sound card you at least know someone is making noise which you otherwise might not hear.

:) I guess it sounds like it makes a difference. Certainly worth it to have real experience with soundcard vs no soundcard on the actual game.

Was the positional improvement strictly with CSGO or did it apply across the board with other games?

Remember to disable the motherboard's on-board audio, in the BIOS, before installing an add-on internal sound card.

Creative Labs SB-Z (Sound Blaster Z) sound card.
The SB-Z comes with SBX Headphone surround sound.

If you think you might prefer Dolby Headphone.
Get an Asus Xonar DX sound card (used off eBay is fine, $50-$65) and a FiiO E11K headphone amplifier ($60).
