I haven't been able to find them either but I'm sure they must be out there somewhere

Yeah weird, you hear everyone talking about them yet can't find them anywhere. How did everyone get them in the first place to even post impressions on them?

I was sent them by ALO. Have you considered the sonotones?

I actually just had someone offer to sell me theirs after I posted a comment on the CDM Tube Rolling thread. Was really interested in the Mullards but those seem to be even harder to find. Will probably give the Sonotones a go though, if I don't who knows when I'll be able to find them again.

I got really lucky, looking at the ALO site right as a small batch (and apparently the last one) of the Mullards appeared. I wish there were enough for everyone as they are awesome. Cheers

Is there an equivalent to the Mullard 6112 in another manufacturer...or pretty close?

A lot of people really like the Sonotone's, and since they're single-triodes they actually use less energy, so the CDM's battery lasts longer with them. However, the Mullard's are still my favorites.

Only downside is that they won't (I believe) be compatible with the one-tube CV5.

Cheers

Yeah, I'm probably going to go for the Sonotone's.

I've contacted just about every NOS tube seller on earth with no success landing the Mullard's. I have a couple really nice gold fillings, if someone wants to trade...

I see ALO still has some Sonotones available. Get them while you can!

From my review: http://www.headfonia.com/review-tube-rolling-the-alo-cdm/

Sonotone 5719 (Single triode)

  1. Treble is more layered, extended and slightly more focused
  2. Like the Mullards they have a richer sound, especially in the mids. More spacious delivery
  3. Bass reaches deeper, is better layered but looser. A slight less punchy feeling because of the more spacious sound but it body wise is closer to the stock tubes than the Mullard 6112
  4. More airy sound, closer to the Mullards
  5. Wider sound stage/more space between the instruments
  6. Runs a lot colder to the touch (about 38°C but feels like a lot less)

Then after some hours of listening to these 6112 Sonotone I can say to be very pleased with these tubes:

high freq: very bright and never annoying precise right for all types of music, especially of rock

medium freq: the voice and very beautiful in these tubes you get a lot of full-bodied and transparency, the stereo effect is detailed and great spaciousness and stage

low freq: here comes the fun .. with these tubes you get an incredible deep down and descends very low still and never annoying reproduces the exact to be to those who like an energetic bass is really the top!

I listened with my LCD2 then maybe with other headphones may be different but I think in general it is a large tube he found not let them get away it's worth it! Anyway, I noticed that using the balanced input from my AK100 you get a lot more dynamic and clean sound compared to SE..se can not find the Mullard would be a nice comparison .. see you!

Cheers.

Seriously, why is there a shortage of Mullard 6112? Can't they make more?
