Greetings folks. I have a pair of Audio Technica ATH-AD700 (the old series with the champagne colored cups) headphones that have developed a break somewhere in the headphone cable and seem to have a loose connection to the main earpiece. If I move the cable around for a while sometimes I'm able to get a solid connection for a bit and I'm able to get audio out of both channels without issue. I'm pretty sure that the issue can be fixed by replacing the headphone cable and there are many DIY folks in these forums that would do it themselves. Unfortunately I'm none too great with a soldering iron and I really don't want to use these headphones as a learning project. What I would really like to do is to modify the headphones slightly so that they had a removable headphone plug in place so that I could switch out cables as needed. I know Audio Technica won't do this but I'm not sure of any individuals or reputable companies online that would perform this service. Does anybody on the forums know of a reputable individual or company that does this kind of work? The other option would be to send the headphones to Audio Technica for out of warranty repair (they're over 2 years old) however I'm not sure what to expect in terms of charges. Has anybody dealt with them for a similar repair and remembers what the cost was?
