Ah right, didn't watch it - clashed with Match of the Day

I heard Brazil got revenge for their 7-1 drubbing at the last WC. Too bad an Olympic gold in football is about as important as a Confed Cup win

We all have our priorities. But I would say it´s way more important then some premier league game or something lol. Crazy good game.

Really strange great britain don´t want to participate or didn´t they qualify?

I guess so yeah, I just meant in the football world in general, where WC clearly holds the greatest prestige, followed by the individual federation competitions - Euros, Copa America etc. The thing about the Olympic competition is that AFAIK it's an U-23 comp with just a couple of senior players allowed on each team; so you're not quite seeing the real Brazil or the real Germany - as evidenced by the team selections on the night.

It's pretty dumb why Britain won't submit a team; the individual FAs - English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish - are afraid FIFA will say "if you can put together a team for the Olympics, then you can do it for all of our competitions" and that the individual FAs will be foricbly disbanded. To be honest though, Britain did very well to finish second in the overall medal table - I doubt our useless footballers would have helped out any!

I only managed to catch the tail end of the match, and then watched ET and penalties. Enjoyed it immensely. Both sets of players were completely spent by the end of the game. Despite that, most of the penalties taken were exceptional.

I quite like the fact it's mostly a youth team set up. I'd imagine competing in a global tournament (in a football crazy country) would do a great deal of good for developing players' outlook. Real shame Britain were not able to take part. I thought having a GB team in the 2012 Games was a progressive step forward personally.

Still don't understand why Squash isn't part of the Olympics.

It is part of the Commonwealth Games, which could be a step towards the IOC giving them more consideration. And it is widely played enough around the world to qualify on those grounds. It is a shame that legends of the sport like Jansher Khan never got to play on the Olympic stage.

To be honest, I don't find it a great spectator sport, even with the transparent courts, but I know a lot of people disagree.

In Tokyo, they are reintroducing both Baseball and Softball, which seems like overdoing it, but the Japanese love the sport.

Judging by Euro 2016, English Footballers would be better off playing Tennis. They are very good at repeatedly hitting a ball over a net after all...

Deadline Day over. Biggest surprise was probably Chelsea re-signing Luiz. I can't really understand that one myself, but time will tell I guess. Always thought the guy was useful going forward but defensively a bit of a liability at times. Hart going out on loan to Torino is also a bit of a puzzle. As someone else commented, it's a bit like Buffon leaving Juve to go out on loan to Bournemouth! I guess Pep wouldn't sanction a loan move to another EPL team.

It's the first Old Firm game of the scottish football season this saturday (Celtic v Rangers). For those of you who don't know, - Celtic and Rangers are two scottish clubs from the same city who lets just say have the most "passionate" rivalry in the football world. As a Celtic fan i'm hoping for a repeat of this...

I think we can "steamroll" them under Brendan Rogers managership lol. He is a lifelong Celtic fan so his heart is in it...that definitely helps.

Has any other club then these won the scottish league before? Nice to see Larsson in action :)

It has been about 31 years since another team was able to beat Celtic and Rangers to win the scottish league...lol. It was Aberdeen in 1985. I think the reason for this dominance of 2 clubs only, is mostly down to Scotland being a small country. Most of the population either supports Celtic or Rangers. Therefore the smaller clubs don't tend to attract very wealthy owners. Henrik was truly a gift from God for Celtic. He was definitely up there with other legends of his era...he reminded me a little of Thierry Henry. Where have all these legends gone now

it seems football doesn't have as many as it used to.

Great to see Petrov too.
Was Nakamura with them then or was he later? I used to catch the SPL highlights whenever I could, and he almost always used to score a free kick if it came to it..

It's quite interesting to see both teams sporting the same sponsors on the shirts, don't think I've ever seen/noticed that before.

That Old Firm game was from August 2000. Yea Nakamura was part of the Gordon Strachan era (2005-2009). He was easily one of the best free-kick takers in the game. I always wondered why one of the top English clubs didn't pick up on him at a young age, IMO he would've easily fitted into any Arsenal, Man U or Chelsea team. "Wonder goals" where normal for Nakamura...

Yea I've always found it slightly ironic that both teams often have the same sponsors on the shirts because there is no unity whatsoever between them lol.
