There are 3 models of M2:
 
-Aune M2- $350- Uses Japanese Crystal Oscillators
-Aune M2 Pro-$500- Uses custom Crystek (USA) Crystal Oscillators pictured below and opamps upgraded.
-Aune M2S- $650- Has the upgrades of the Pro version and adds Teflon substrate PCB, this is the only dap to use Teflon PCB which are only found in a few very expensive desktop audio gears.
 
 

i have recently bought the m1. i usuually use a sony mz-rh1 (line-out) topping amp.  To be honest i prefer the m1 (no headphone amp). It has a neutral sound. Mids are warm - and seperation is excellent. I am aware of a very slight sibilance so need to pair with the right headphones - Paired with sony mdr 7750 iems it sounds great. To be honest i thought that i would be intereted in m2 - simply from basis of wider format support. But conversion from flac to 16 bit wav has been easy with mediamonkey ... so not sure about m2. Looking forward to hearing some reviews of the m2

I'm liking the M1 I've got, and this M2 looks like it has improved in several important areas, like dac, amp, power regulation and volume control . I can definitely see the amp section has an improved discrete transistor buffer section, no doubt influenced by B1. And the AKM4990 is looking to be a great dac. The power regulation is stepped up by using beefy LDO's from TI. The volume control is improved by using the TI PGA2311 which will get rid of channel imbalances that rotary pots have. The backbone of Aune's sound is their CPLD tech for a better audio signal sent to the dac, means everything else in the chain will sound better.

It is a shame yes, I love full size SD. M2 has all circuits on a single pcb unlike M1 with double pcb's, so needed to cut down unnecessary things on the M2. They moved to single pcb on the M2 so it could have a larger battery than M1.

Seeing the PCB, it might not be the fatest player... Fits nicely in the pocket.
