Audio-Technica ATH-R70x - In-Depth Review & Impressions
May 3, 2015 at 2:17 AM Post #17 of 2,669
First of all, AMAZING review!!!  In comparison, when my review will be out you can call it an "impression" next to your masterpiece!!!

Regarding R70x vs MRS7, MSR7 has a little more bass quantity, in particular a stronger mid-bass punch, mids have a bit less clarity and pushed a little back, treble has a little more sizzle, soundstage depth is the same but width is a little more narrower, and overall tuning is more balanced vs R70x being more neutral (with a very impressive natural transparent tonality).

Thank you!

My friend, you're too humble!

We are waiting for your review

Are R70x harsher than HD650 or AKG K712 in treble???

As mentioned in my review, ATH-R70x is very smooth sounding, but not too warm. No harshness at all. HD 600 is too warm for my taste, R70x is more natural sounding.

K712 from memory is clearer and leaner sounding than R70x, while R70x has fuller mids and bass.

Thanks for the review, unfortunately it does make me a bit less excited about the R70x but I'm still going to buy my own set eventually anyway.

Amazing review earphonia. So would you think that the R70x will work great, or at least decently, out of the Schit Audio magni 2?

The R70x likely won't sound terrible out of the Magni 2, but you'd be better off with the Valhalla 2, which is capable of more than double the power output into high impedances (>300 Ohms) which would translate to better sound. You need a proper high-voltage amp for the R70x, not really a high-current one like the Magni.

I've never tested Magni 2. How is Magni 2 signature? Neutral to analytic IMHO is better for R70x.

I just got the r70x last week. Would a cayin c5 + fiio x3 2nd gen be a decent pairing with this pair of headphones?

I haven't tried Cayin C5. I have Fiio X3 2nd gen, unfortunately not a very good pairing with R70x.

How does the R70x compare to the Sennheiser HD600?

I borrowed HD 600 and had it for a few days, a few years ago. So not an accurate comparison, please take note of that. HD 600 is generally to warm for me, and i don't really like it. Just personal preference. R70x is smooth and full bodied, but not really in the category of warm sounding. Maybe only a little. Generally from memory recollection, I prefer R70x by quite a large margin.
