My impression is one of great disappointment that I won't be able to make it today. I think this is the first NY area meet I've missed in almost a decade. As well as enjoying the opportunity to listen to great gear, I most look forward to catching up with my Head-fi buddies. Have a great meet and a wonderful after-meet!

HI All!

Just a short thank you to all the folks I met and spoke with at the NYC Spring Meet today.  What a great group of welcoming people for my first headphone meet!  I am talking all the folks on both sides of the table for sure!!  Everyone took the time, and very relaxed at that, to answer all my questions, make me feel welcome, give patient explanations, share a common interest, good stories, personal equipment thoughts, and didn't seem to mind my dazed and lost for words looks.  I got my ears pulled, filled with great sounding music, and learned a couple of new tricks to try with my gear to improve its sound. Thank you, thank you, thank you.  Know that you represented yourselves very well!  The venue was comfortable, and you picked a perfect day to do it on!  Oh, and I forgot to close the windows on my car which I parked in the school lot when I came back in from eating lunch in it and getting some fresh air. Yep, the car was still there untouched when I went out to leave!!  Amazing!!

I was honored when I was asked to watch the table of one of the sponsors for a few minutes while he got something to eat.  As soon as he left, I was humbled when two obviously knowledgeable Head-Fiers asked ME some questions about the gear on that table, because I was sitting where I was. I was again honored when these same two guys shared a thoughtful discussion about ciem's, their pros and cons, fit and finish, and personal experiences.  Thanks!

I didn't get a chance to talk to all folks that brought their own gear.  But I hope to make up for that if you let me come back in the fall.

Best Regards to all!!

Attended show for a short time this afternoon. As always the vendors and member exhibitors were amazingly generous with their time and toys. It seems the HP Amp de jure was a Decware Taboo a fine piece of equipment making a wide variety of phones perform at their best especially the Planars.
Let me thank Dave ( I think) at Inner Sanctum Audio from Bklyn . He demonstrated numerous phones inc Grado, Alpha Dogs, and Master & Dynamics The M&D H40 were sooo real world coherent sounding that I bought a pair, Thanks for the show discount, These phones are beautifully made and sound amazing powered from my Lyr right now
For members in the NY metro ISA has pop up exhibits so check his website and thanks to Blue Hawaii/Stax for allowing me to spend time with a system that I will probably never afford, but hope springs eternal.

Hah! Didn't realize Dave/Inner Sanctum was from Brooklyn (as am I) - Yea he was great - he spent a fair amount of time w/ my girlfriend helping her figure out what would work best for her, and it was much appreciated.
Loved my time with Jack Wu also... Was fun chatting and spending sometime with that new woo portable tube amp (I fell in love with that thing).
Finished up my day with the HE-1000.... Good lord.
I started my HE-1000 fund tonight. Might take me a while, but hopefully I'll be able to pull the trigger on the purchase by the end of the summer. Although... That Mr. Speakers Ether was super impressive too.
Was an awesome meet. Look forward to going to more of these.

the meet was first time I was ever attended regarding hi-fi's.
It was really surprising to me that there were a LOT of people who cared about hifi headphones (in the college I was in, nobody even knew about sennheiser was).
going to meet again next year with more equipment.

I really enjoyed the HE-6 at the Headamp table. Does anyone know what the amp was? I cant remember.

Was it two module? Probably the GSX MK2

My impressions will come later, but I wanna thank tom for organizing! I had a blast as always!

Well, once again Tom (aka bozebuttons) has put together an excellent meet.  The weather could not have been better for everyone's drive and the turnout was very good.  Vendor representation was as good as I have seen in the four meets that I have been to, all of the last NY Metro meets, Beyer Dynamic, Woo Electronics, HiFi Man, Mr. Speakers, Inner Sanctum Audio, HeadAmp, ZMF, Aurisonics and more that I regretfully missed or didn't get photos of.  Thanks to all of them taking their time and helping greatly to expand the scope of the show.

The guys from Beyer were very friendly and helpful.

The new Top of Line HiFiMan Model  HE1000 was Extremely Impressive, full dimensioned, airy and quite comfortable, one of the best I listened to at the show or anywhere..... time to save some dollars perhaps.  Where can I sign up for Beta Testing?

Me realizing this could be a real problem to my wallet.....

Instead of my usual eclectric selection of phones and amps from my collection this time I decided to keep it super simple, one source, one amp and one headphone, in this case the rare Stax SR-X Mk3 Pro bias version.  After searching for a couple of years this set came to me from Germany several months ago.  One big downside, I am definitely staying up too late sampling all my music night after night.  Great timbre, very natural and open sound regardless of genre.  Still not a champ in soundstage size they make up for it with their other attributes and they definitely are more expansive than standard bias SR-X's.  Got 100% positive responses from the many visitors for stopped by for a listen, not bad for a 35 year old design.  Of course made a few more headphone buddies in the process.

A few of the happy listeners.

As mentioned the turnout was good, a few pix to show the activity.

Dan, Mr. Speakers had his new from the ground up open air design the Ether available to see and hear and it was a beauty on both counts, a real winner and worthy flagship piece for his line.  Congratulations Dan on continuing to improve the breed and in this case taking a totally different approach.

Quite a looker.....

Always tempting to sample the wares at the HeadAmp table and today was no different.  Another case of my wallet needing some infusing to satisfy a very deep craving for a SR-007mk 1 or heaven forbid an SR-009 (at least I know the 009 will run on my current electrostatic amps.

More to come.....

I missed last meet and so really glad I could come today, it was truley great to be there,
and it was so nice to see the faces behind the names.
Yet the best thing was the surprises I herd in headphones.
wow just want a quick mention of what I would call the "Fabulous Four":
1-he1000 = OMG
2-Either = WOW
3- Audio Zenith PMx2 = Unbelievable
4- ZMF new prototype = Impossible achieved

I spent most my time hopping around and enjoying members setups and I have to say at every table I was not dissapointed.

SO big thanks to FFRESPONSE for hosting my modded LDmk8se amp at last minute, and Tom and everyone involved in this meet.
Had a great time
:)

Guess that makes this post part two.....

I had an enjoyable converstation with Dave of Inner Sanctum Audio.  He had an excellent selection of good quality phones on demo/display and was offering some tempting show deals.  Definitly a dealer to check out for your next set of phones, based locally in the boroughs his site is:  www.InnerSanctumAudio.com.  I was glad to finally hear the Masters and Dynamic phones in a good demo so I now know that they sound good in their range besides being such a handsome design.

Of course what sort of meet would it be without Jack Woo and his beautiful gear and friendly personality.  A table of eye candy.

The silent auction was anything but and bozebuttons took the reigns and did an excellent job of ecking out good bids on all the items assuring that the cost of putting the meet together was covered and we can look forward to more Long Island Spring Meets.

Below is Mullet's table of handiwork, good looking package.  Glad I finally got him to listen to an electrostatic headphone, planting seeds of future destruction to his wallet.

DutchGFX, also known as Tyler had his current from the ground up design on hand in addition to his crack amp.  Shown below the amp is in front with the power supply hidden behind the laptop screen did a very good job with LCD2 and particularly impressed me on his Beyer T1, a headphone I know very well, there was a great synergy between them.

Aurisonics had some very impressive iem's on demo and I listened to a couple that really make great music, fit easily and were priced below what I would have guessed.  Worth checking these guys out.

I finally got to hear the ZMF headphones, good looking products with a nice rich sound, very fairly priced to boot.   I began bidding on his donation to the auction as I did with Mr. Speaker's but bailed out before the winning bid was reached on both.

Long day so I think I will leave the post for now, looking forward to feedback from other attendees.

Once again a big thank you to Tom for getting it all together and keeping it organized and fun.

See you guys at the Fall Meet.....

Nice impressions and nice meeting you today. Please post pics of your modded Little Dot . It is a real beaut and sounds great to boot. I have a few crappy Iphone pics I can post later but your amp deserves better than what I captured. Will post my own impressions later but generally agree with your concise summary of some of the highlights. Thanks again to Tom, of course, for putting it together.

Hi Max,

I have a quick question for you.

Which headphones has the most forward mids between the Ether and the HE-1000 ?

I'm trying to decide if I should go with the Ether or the HE-1000 and I will probably go with the one that has more emphasis in the 250hz to 3khz.

Thanks!

I was at the meet yesterday, and I had a great time.  The auction was great fun.  I scored a pair of the ZMF headphones, and they sound great.  Everyone was great and too the time to answer any questions I or my wife may have had.  I am going to next year's event.
