Open Headphones for ~$500

They shipped mine in a few days, and then the international shipping took less than a week. Whenever you order something international, though, there's always the possibility that US Customs will take longer--that's the potential hold up.

I had a good experience ordering from them. You contact them at audio-gd@126.com with any questions and what you want to order. They send you an invoice, and then you pay with paypal--same customer guarantee protection as you get with Ebay.

I have emailed him twice and I haven't gotten a reply yet. How long does it usually take after you tell him what you want to order and ask him questions?

May Day is a Chinese labor holiday celebration. I would imagine that they might not be working until next week.

Yeah I think you were right, they emailed back the next day lol. I am definitely going above my price range here but I think it may be worth it. I can get a LCD-2 (the new revision with fazor tech) for ~$700, mint condition and they were built this year February. Firstly, do you think these will meet my criteria? Next I am worried about the weight they are like 600g, the HE-500's are 500g and people complain about their weight. Lastly, would the NFB-15.32/11.32 still be a good amp/dac for these headphones too?

Sorry. I don't know enough about the LCD-2s. I've resisted learning more about the headphones in that price bracket because I want to upgrade my HT system if I'm going to start spending that kind of cash :)

For what it's worth, I liked the HE-400i a lot more than the HD 700 and DT 880. I like the Focal Spirit Professional slightly more than the HE-400i, but the FSP is a closed headphone. My new HD 650 will arrive tomorrow. I believe that was also one you were considering? Reading the thread again, it appears that you own or have owned the HD 650. Anyway, the HE-500 can sometimes be found for $250-400 used -- usually not under $350, though. Here's one for $400.

What a funny coincidence. I was about to message you soon, since we hadn't talked in awhile, and ask about whether you heard higher-end headphones at meets and whether you plan on buying any eventually.

Hey there!

I'm a bit of an Audio-GD fanboy, but I really think Kingwa makes good quality stuff. The NFB units you mention are both really great, and they will give enough power to just about any headphone around.

The LCD-2 vs HE-500 is a tough one. I would say the HE-500 sounds a bit "lighter" than the HD650 and the LCD-2 a bit "darker". It's like the HD650 is right between the two. The LCD-2 imo has a bit of a recessed treble, and the HE-500 a bit less recessed, but I would say they are both less than neutral. IMO, I think the LCD-2 and HD500 are a bit more "on par" than saying the LCD-2 is an overall better headphone. Also, many people have complained about the LCD2's weight over the years. I would definitely read up on that, if it is a serious concern. The HE500 are also heavier than the HD650 which is also something to consider.

Regarding weight... comfort is personal. I find the heavy planars to be perfectly fine. My gf hates them.

Seriously though, I agree. I have no problems with my HE-400s.

Interesting thing about the HE-400i: the comfort was fine and it didn't hurt my neck at all, but the weight still made it hurt my back a little.

For a lot of people it's definitely fine. For me, not really an issue unless I had the LCD2 on for like 6 hours.

But off the top of my head I recall some people who specifically were concerned about weight due to their neck straining easily or preexisting medical conditions that find planars (especially LCD-2) pretty much unusable for more than 10 minutes.
