After a lot of research (read procrastination) I decided to buy an M-audio transit to solve my music problems - ie needed something to make my G5, iBook and HPPc sound better.

The transit's just arrived and I'm very impressed with the sound quality. It's driving a pair of Senn 280s and seems to provide more than enough juice. Good bass, more volume than my ears can take. After reading all the nightmare stories about the M-audio drivers I decided not to install them and am just using OSX's support. All seems to work - very simple. Haven't tried it on the PC yet.

The music's much more airy and less compressed. To use that well-worn cliche, a veil has been lifted from the music. If I had a Mark Levinson CD player and top of the range open headphones I might go for something more expensive, but for a PC/MP3 based system it's enough to make me happy for only $70.

Congrats!

A wise decision. Transit easily outperforms both IBM and Toshiba laptop soundcards in terms of resolution, clarity and soundstage.

Even the headphone/line out combo can drive headphones, I would definitely recommend to get an amp to get the full potential from this small soundcard.

So far I haven't experienced any problems with Transit drivers.

I purchased it from www.floridamusicco.com. I thought about BHPhoto - I bought my headphones from them - but I also live outside the US and they only do UPS shipping which is about US$40. Florida Music Co sent it to me via the US Postal Service (USPS) for US$16.90 - Total price including shipping was US$84.90. Delivery was fast and you can track it online via USPS website...

Hope that's some help...

Thank you guys. I'll check froggle and Florida Music Co. If I can get it really cheap I could even get two. Ciao.
