My L5Pro left Hong Kong, I hope to get it before the end of the week but it's a long journey :)

... and mine just crossed the ocean and landed in US (though not yet in NJ)

The race is on!!!  I'm sure, Paul's is somewhere still down-under

Very excited for the opportunity to test and to compare L5 Pro to LP5, AK120ii, QA360, and N6.  It's a bit sad that LP5 is the best sounding DAP in my review collection, but at the same time the one which gets the least airtime because of a battery life and a bit frustrating controls/GUI.  L5 Pro, from what I understand, takes the best of LP5 sound and improved L5 touch/hw interface.  Based on the pictures, it looks like it can give A&K run for its money, and I already experienced L&P sound tuning to know it shouldn't be disappointing.  Now to seal the deal, need to get first hand experience with controls and interface!

So just gonna post some rough box opening.

Box came in bubble wrap with my name all over it. LOL  There was like 5~6 layers of bubble wraps, took me a while to get the box out.

The packaging is different from L5, much more simplistic this time. I guess it is the trend for many electronic device packaging anyway.
Funny that it says L5 in the back, not L5 Pro.

Then the box splits in two, one has accessories and one has LP brand name written on it.

So I decided to open the one with the brand name, and here come the pretty little baby.

Well, the front is pretty identical to L5 except the (slightly) larger screen.

Then I flipped it over, and here comes the magic =D

YESSSSSS WOW WOOOOOOOOODEN BACK PLATE!!!  ENOUGH SAID!!!!!!!!!!!

The finishing and engraving on the wood looks amazing! Even better than the metal back plate on L5.

Alright, away from the wooden wonderland. Lets look at whats on the other box.
There are two small boxes inside, one has the leather case, the other one has the USB cable.

The leather case has an very luxury look on it, leather feels like one of those high end leather product.
So the leather type is called crazy house leather, or saddle leather. I am not a leather expert though.

The leather case is a "hard case", which I think there are some reinforce material in between the leather layers.
It should offer extra level of protect for you L5/L5 Pro when accidents happen.
PS. L5 is pretty sturdy. Last time I dropped my L5 on the floor, it created a small pit on the wood without getting a scratch.

The stitching is really nice.

The case fits the L5 Pro quite well, I expect it do the same for L5. Looks pretty good with L5 pro too.
However, it is a pity to hide L5 Pro's beautiful wooden black plate behind the case.
But it feel really nice to hold the L5 Pro with leather case, so there goes the dilemma.

Some quick notes:
1. L5 Pro's volume knob works differently than L5. Now it "clicks" as you turn it, which gives better control.
2. L5 Pro's touch screen and UI is VERY, I meant, VERY responsive.
3. L5 Pro's edges have been smooth-en out, so it is nicer to hold even without the leather case.
4. The metal casing feels different than L5, lets say L5P's brush metal surface feels much more refined and more detailed.
5. The screen looks sharper on L5 pro and a much cooler and accurate(I Think so, it looks closer to my calibrated monitor) color reproduction, but it also feels less refined comparing to L5, maybe slightly lower dpi.
6. The leather case blocks off the Micro-SD card slot. So if you want to change the Micro-SD card, you have to remove the case first.  Not a big deal to me, since I only use one 128gb Micro-SD card.
7. Sound is definitely more refined and dynamic. Much larger sound stage and much vivid bass reproduction. .
8. Since the L5 pro and the leather case is so well aligned, they attached to each other very tightly. Might have some problem when removing the leather case, not big deal.

PS. The english manual is a lie XD

Glad to see you both are getting a unit as well. I have to thank Paul for getting me in touch all these months ago.

Think I have won the race guys.

Arriving early is nice and all, DHL asked for a 20 dollars import tax for a 30 dollars(claimed) product, WP DHL!
EDIT:

For all L5 Pro Reviewers

There is a firmware update on the L5 Pro review units that sent out last week, just some bug fixes.
Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/6hpejcyelgxv61f/lpfwpkg_l5pro_v1.0.0.2b.rar?dl=0.

One thing to note is that although L5 Pro comes with English as default, updating firmware will reset it back to Chinese. I will pose a picture-oriented instruction tomorow on how to change language option on L5 Pro.

The firmware is not compatible with L5.
