Anyone have an estimate on how much $30 of speaker wire/cable is there.

Radioshack(wow, doing research on your own) - last i checked, 30$ worth of cable should cost about $30.... I don't know where I came up with that figure though...

Credit must be given where credit is due, must be our remarkable high school math education

Why don't you lug a satellite down to radioshack and try it out?

Hey puppet,

The default cable is kind of skinny, eh? I don't know if increasing cable gauge will change the sound much... but obviously Klipsch saw an opportunity to make more $$$ by selling cable "upgrades" for their systems.

I don't think "cable" and "wire" have formal differences, though I tend to think of jacketed material with cables, and bare metal strands with wire. You'll be the first person I've heard of to upgrade cables on Logitechs... let us know if you hear a difference.

Puppet, I've owned the 560's for years, and after about a year, I changed the stock 22ga (or 24ga) wire to 16ga Accoustic Research cabling, and noticed an opening up of what little highs there were, and an increase in percieved detail that was not subtle, as well as a reduction in noise that was nothing short of drastic.

The stock cabling is very, very cheap.

I'd suggest you go to home depot, and pick up whatever length you need of 16 or 18ga lamp cord. It's cheap, it's quite good (some audiophiles swear that there's no audible difference between 12ga lamp cord and the most expensive Cardas or Virtual Dynamic cables. I don't agree, but I think lamp cord is still quite good). Then just cut it to length and strip the ends.

And a note to all those bashing you:
No, the Z-560's are not the pinnacle of excellence in sound reproduction, in fact, they're quite bad on the grand scale of things. They're not Wilson Audio or Martin Logan, but they are cheap. In fact, they're REALLY cheap. They're the best in their price range at some things (big bass, overall volume) and not so far off in others that it's laughable (fidelity, clarity, flatness). There are more musical speakers out there for the price, but not for a basshead.

The 560's are the Sony V6 of the desktop speaker world. They're better than most people will ever own, they're boomy, loud, and cheap, but they're a DARN good value for a lot of people.

If someone came in asking for advice on making his V6's better, you wouldn't tell him that he owned absolute crap and that anything below an Omega2 setup is laughable, you'd either help or shut up. I think that it shows a lack of class not to afford the same respect to puppet and his question.

and why do you diss on the 560s. I found them for $112 free shipping

http://www.c-source.com/csource/news...o=443217&src=y

The most i was going to spend was $150 tops, so my choices were very limited. I love bass alot and its got just about the most powerfull sub for a consumer, 188W of pure thump.

I also like action movies and online war games so alot of bass helps in explosions.

I also needed at least 4.1, so I wasnt going to go with a high end 2.1 system.

I dont feel like an idiot for choosing the 560s, i`m not an audiophile who spends $1000`s on speaker cable and speakers,AMPs and everything else.

Instead of insulting you could have just answered my cable questions and it would be done with,

AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH MAC

Kinda sad the way this thread went...

Puppet, you get this kind of response with larger forums. Its a shame. I've seen it over and over.

I hope you got the info you needed, and I hope you'll stick around and learn a little about music and headphone equipment.

Best regards kid,
BILL

Puppet - If you do a search you might find a number of members feel speaker wire/cable is one of the areas there is little influence. Silver should probably have some impact, kind of expensive for you.

My speaker manufacturer is 71yrs old and quite a veteran. For his speakers recommends inexpensive solid copper telephone wire and what is used in his audition room. It is easy to work with and I can not tell any detrimental audible difference. My speakers are not cheap.

FAL

Speaker cables/wire perhaps can make a difference but feel other areas like source, amplification and speakers/cans will have a more profound impact.

So save your money on the speaker wire/cable and most of your gear for that matter, study hard and save your $, you will likely need it for college so you can afford all the expensive stuff down the road. In the meantime the budget stuff will still play the music, my iHP brings almost as much joy as my home rig worth considerably more for simple convenience. Most important is to enjoy the music and learning. Plus the more ya know the better you can spot bargains. This is an interesting and challenging hobby.

The asylum and other forums will also provide plenty advice as well.

Enjoy.

alright scence i wont tell the difference i`ll get 18 ga instead of 16 ga, 18 is a sure fit but 16 is a little risky. The reason i need speaker cable is because the wires that come with the speakers arnt long enough. Its not because i dont trust the sound quallity of the z-560s.

anyways 18ga is still better then the 22ga it comes with.

If you look up on Radio Shack's site they have 16 and 18 gauge versions of that cable I linked to for $10 for 50 feet.

I have the 560s also. The wire they come with is thinner than cheap earbud wire. That stuff is really, really crappy. Not too bad for speakers though. They are pretty good for games and movies and stuff.
