New release - the AKG K553 Pro - featuring a killer Massdrop deal
May 10, 2015 at 5:55 PM Post #317 of 625
Does anyone know if these are exclusive to Massdrop or will they be sold in retail? I see them listed on B&H's website, but they're 'coming soon' with no expected date.

I was under the impression that they were only debuting on Massdrop.

Yes, they'll be sold retail.  Massdrop.com got first preview sales....  That's over now.  Keep looking for the K533 to go on sale to the public...

Listed on Canada Computer website now at C$299 (though only available in store).

Amazon also has them listed (though not in Canada... but Amazon Canada sucks, so that's to be expected).

Yeah Im happy with getting $200 cans for $120 if they sound as good as people say. Got my HD555 for $100 years ago and for some reason they go for $150 last I checked. Really hope these are the upgrade I think they are. Yay next Saturday! (Hope thats not serious but it's not horrible)

The HM5 pads fit on the K553. You need to stretch it a little before and take your time while putting it, preferably by grabbing half of the pads with your hand. What I noticed:
-Better seal
-Therefore bass more present (and also the sound seems a little bit better define but not sure)
-My ears don't touch at all to the drivers and they are comfortable
-They get hotter than the stock pad and more quickly

Are those pleather or velour? Hard to tell from the pics.

I think I've got some of these sitting around. Might give this a try.

Those look fantastic with the colour offset. Red or brown would be awesomesauce!

I vote for ORANGE

Don't think Brainwavs do pads in ORANGE. At least not that I've seen on MP4 Nation...
