The o2 amp was providing the power for the headphones.
compared to others theres no contest, the hifime was a complete wase of money. but hey we live and learn.

*shrug*
I also have other DACs I can compare it to, it does very good, certainly serviceable, with IEM directly. And it does sound warm when you set the filter mode to slow, but certainly not quite so with fast roll-off filter imo. I haven't tested it paired with an amp though, probably never since I won't ever use it that way.

just done another quick comparison and i forgot to leave out how much distortion the hifimediy created

i think thats what makes the hifiman sound cleaner than it is when swapping back and forth.

I have a problem with the 9018D USB DAC on Mac
For a while now it only goes to 96kHz and no more...used with Audirvana and other players
Under Audio devices on OSX it defaults to 48kHz and 2ch-16bit....max I can set is 96kHz and 2ch-32bit
Can I reflash the firmware perhaps?

OOps...rear switch was not on HS

Just received hifime 9018D yesterday.

I have audio-gd nfb 11 (2014 version) as my desktop dac/amp.

The hifime sounds distorted!

As a dac? Or ampling the headphones.

One Question:

I use a O2 Amp from Objective with the Hifime 9018 for now. Should i buy the O2 + ODac to upgrade my sound for my Audeze LCD-X or which Dac for 300€ is the best? I search for a clear sound that make the Voice better/warm.

There's much more to it than the chip inside.

Yes, a lot of mobile devices sandwich with 9018 doesn't mean they are getting the 9018 performance, I prefer something well proven with engineering effort.

Getting an Audio DAC by looking at what is using inside the DAC is a little bit too naive. I am only getting the products something like exasound, AMB, ODAC, etc..

In my ears the hifime is to sharp in the highs and to cold for voices. The resolution is very good, but the sounding is on the LCD X just not good. For me the Galaxy S4 has a better sounding than the Hifime, without to be clear and without the details.
