New Audio-gd DAC-19 [10th Anniversary Edition]

A sleuth of things. The VIA drivers were never stable on my machine. And I think I had a defective module once. They all just stopped working on me at one point or another...
Never had such issues with other USB interfaces.
I should test it further with other PCs or rigs but so far the overall experience on my machine is spotty at best.

Good to know. Appreciate the quick follow-up.

On Windows, Amaerno drivers will skip the first 1-2 seconds of tracks when switching. This is a known issue that is caused by USB reinitialization. E-mail Kingwa for details if this might bother you.

Just received my DAC-19 and C-2 combo today and got everything setup.

I'm loving it so far but I have run into an issue I'm hoping one of you may have solved already.  On the beginning of any track in Foobar, or when I move the playback slider, the first 1-2 seconds or so of the song is cut off.  Is there anyway to compensate for this in Foobar?  I've tried adjusting the buffer length from the default of 1000ms both down and upward without any change.  I'm currently using WASAPI event mode (tried push as well) with the Amanero USB input on Windows 10, if that info is useful in troubleshooting.

Any help would be appreciated.

Even after only listening for about an hour, this setup sounds wonderful.  Once I figure out this track playback issue, I'll be set.

EDIT:  Wow, I literally posted this right as stjj89 posted that info above me.  So is there any fix for it?  It's not the end of the world, but I'd like to find a way around it.

I ran into this issue too and was kind of ticked off when Kingwa told me that it is expected behavior that he can't do anything about. He should have dropped a warning somewhere for Windows users.

Agreed, that would have been good information to have before making my decision on the Amanero.  Still, maybe there's a way to delay output?

Indeed. I ended up moving my DAC-19 to my Linux setup, but I've heard of other users who have done this on their music players. I think this might have affected me on web browser streaming services too, but I can't remember clearly. That would be much harder to add delay to.

I believe there's a Foobar plugin that folks have used to delay the start by 2 seconds or something like that.  Was it @bimmer100 that had this issue?

Yes, certainly can't be the first device to need a delay.  At least all my music is 44.1k/16 so it only happens when I first start an album.  Well, it happens when I'm skipping around testing out different songs as well, even with the same sample rate.  On Tom Sawyer by Rush, skipping the first two seconds of the song (which happens to be one of my test tracks) kinda ruins the whole song.

Jriver is the fix.
Under settings choose to add 1sec delay for device initialization startup.
It only happens upon warm up period. So get a real player and use jriver river. It's a lot better than foobar but takes a little getting use to. As does any new program. I used to use foobar until I played around with jriver enough to know what I was missing out on.

I also switched to JRiver because of Amanero's need for a second of silence at start.

(Ignore the Audio-gd KS setting... experimenting with my new-to-me NFB-2.32, which is the Wolfson variant of the DAC-19)

Maybe this would work for foobar2000?

If only JRiver wasn't $50-70 for a limited update license...

The demo seems decent enough.  Fixes the playback issue.

Any settings I should be looking at to keep my 44.1k/16bit path clean and still add EQ?

I'll try it for 30 days.  Got nothing to lose.

There are discount codes every now and then for it. It's $50 for Windows only if you don't also need it for Linux/Mac.

For 44.1/16-bit playback, just use ASIO (probably listed as Combo384 ASIO or something like that).

For EQ, you can do that in DSP Studio.

I prefer EasyQ of the free options (there's also EQ built in, but I like EasyQ still):

It'll show up in DSP Studio after you add it.

Still tweaking JRiver but I think it's sounding pretty good.

This setup is really putting a smile on my face so far.  DAC-19 has that nice smooth sound to it that I like and the C-2 has a ridiculous amount of clean power.  I was listening to Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells through my HE-400i's and it was really an incredible experience.

I'm finding I prefer the softer sound of the DAC-19, in contrast to my Bifrost Multibit, which I feel has a brighter sound.  Good thing since I already sold the Multibit...

Do you all leave your DAC-19 on all the time?

I always left my Bifrost MB on to keep it working at maximum potential, but wasn't sure if that was needed for the 19.  If I were to turn it off, what's the time it takes to get up to operating temp and optimal sound quality?

Speaking of maximum potential - I'm only to page 48 of this thread (and seems it will take a good while longer to finish).
Does the group think the maximum potential is more related to burn-in or thermal stability? I too am used the Multibit Schiit DACs, which are thermal stability.
