Need Help Getting True HD Music Fom My Player

Whew, that's quite a lot to digest
smily_headphones1.gif

and to be honest...confusing.

I think what confuses me is I'm equating Audio with Video.
With video the digital signal remains pure with an HDMi cable so we get full 1080p on our TVs
So it has me thinking maybe using the digital outputs on the Sony or Oppo would do the same if I traded my LDIII Amp for one with a digital input.

BTW~I'd love to rip my few SACDS to my PC but I can't figure out how.

If you use the digital outs, you're simply sending the bits to another DAC. Meaning, you won't be using the Oppo's processing function, which is very, very good. I have a LDIII, as well, with upgraded tubes. You can see what I use in my profile; it's the least pedigreed, least expensive amp I own. Yet, it's my preferred amp for HD600 and the only amp I ever use with K550. I guess I'm trying to say that you have some excellent gear that's rarely matched in this market segment, which tends to cater to the no-money, I-want-it-as-cheap-as-possible crowd. No offence meant to anyone; I was a student/young professional, too, and fully realize what it's like to live on a limited/fixed endowment.

No offense taken...I bought the LDIII and Oppo  BECAUSE they hit above their weight.
I'm not well off financially by any means.

OK, I'll stick to my Oppo with the LDII for now until I hit the Lottery. :)

Thanks for your (and everyone else's) help.

I'm not so sure if bandwidth is an issue, but again if you used digital output, then whatever is on the other end of the digital cable be it HDMI or SPDIF also has to have a DSD DAC for SACDs if you want to listen to SACDs as decoded by hardware that was made for it instead of PCM.

I Googled it and this is the top result: https://newtoolbox.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/sacd-ripper-primer-v4-0.pdf

Sorry but I didn't read it anymore as I'm not planning on getting back to SACD anytime soon. As much as I'm interested in it, the music I listen to is easier to find on vinyl and 24/96 than DSD.

Shaffer,

It just occurred to me you're probably thinking of my Oppo 95 which is set up in my TV room.

I'm asking about the Sony or my older Oppo DV-981 HD for my bedroom headphone setup.
Oppo responded today with this when I asked about the DAC in the 981...

"The DV-981HD uses a standard Cirrus Logic 24-bit DAC, so it will not be as good as most receivers. So we would recommend that you use HDMI wherever available, as this will give you the best audio from this player."

This Shiit DAC...do I just use that to connect with my LDIII?
