I have a note 4, tab3, note 12.2. I have a total of 7 tablets. I have the micro usb 3.0 to usb host connector for the 12.2. How do I get the tablet to recognize the connector or output to the connector? Can I use this set up to listen to pandora, google play , amazon music, youtube or....does the music have to be stored on the device?  I looked in the settings of the tablet, but never saw an option to output to usb

Many tablets & phones will not output digital audio to USB. Some will if they support Android "On the Go" (OTG) using an OTG cable.

What exactly are you trying to do? What are you trying to connect the tablet to?

OK, so the question you need to research is which tablets support Android OTG, because that's what the Fiio E18 wants. You will need an Android OTG cable.

Didn't the E18 come with an OTG USB cable? If you used the supplied cable and it didn't work with any of those, you're either unlucky enough to have all seven tablets that actually don't work with the E18 (they made it for Android, but since Android isn't a specific brand the way only Apple makes iOS devices, compatibility is still not guaranteed) or the cable is broken.

Try this thread - it has links at every page number that's a multiple of five to an updated Google doc spreadsheet listing Androids that can output USB audio and compatible DACs.

I have 7 devices and only one, the note pro 12.2 will usb out. Now I am wondering if it will usb out streamed music or only what's stored on the device

It depends on the device. It's easier to check compatibility for iOS devices because only Apple manufactures them, so there's just these lines of products that you can easily check with other users, but Android is open source. Any manufacturer can make their own modifications, including omitting certain bits, in both the hardware and software. It's not a matter of whether it's local storage or not, both my SGS3 and iPad2 don't care.

The only time that locally stored media will stream but other sounds won't is if the device only works with USB Audio Player Pro, in which case, that's because the USB audio drivers are embedded in UAPP itself instead of the Android version installed on it.
