I've decided I want to give the beyers a go, I need to make my mind up quickly though.

I'm a fan of the Superlux Evos and the 668Bs, I have the option of the DT990 and 770 to go for but I can't make my mind up which? They'll mainly be for office use too? I listen to all sorts of music so can't be too specific, but I do like a lot of desert/stoner/psych rock.

Thanks

DT 770 are closed backed, so ideal for office use, it's got a decent 'V' shaped sound signature though, very bassy.

I like my DT770 LE's quite a bit (They are equivalent to the DT770 32 ohm being produced now), tho I mostly listen to EDM. Not sure what desert/stoner rock is, but from my experience with rock music, drums and bass sound excellent through the DT770's, while guitars and vocals can be a little laidback. Still enjoyable though, imo.

Do you use a headphone amp btw? The DT770's sound fine out of just an ipod or laptop/pc, but I think they sound best out of a decent amp.

I do indeed use a Fubar and iCute amp.

The bass V comment has put me off the 770s slightly, for this reason I'm tempted with the 990s instead. Can't decide! No where local I can try them!

They are a bassy can, but I'll be honest, they were tamed when I paired them with by Bifrost Uber, my iFi Nano was very bassy driving them. I guess it's down to the pairing of DAC/amp.

They are an enjoyable listen IMO.

I ended up going for the 990s, read a fair amount around people liking them who have liked the superlux 668b so i'll go from there. Think I may have got a steal new at £95?

I have also read things about their quality not being the best build, there are a few amazon reviews going on about flaws that mean the wiring stops working after 2 years etc?

Never heard that before about the 990s, but all headphones are susceptible to wiring problems if you abuse them.

Perhaps people in the impressions thread would have a better idea of whether or not this is a consistent problem: http://www.head-fi.org/t/150006/dt990-pro-impressions-thread
