Don't think it's faulty battery meter, this has happened on several occasions, where i've removed it from the charger, used it for roughly 1-2 hours, turned off music, left whatever player so it wasn't running, and then clicked the volume know for sleep. Not powered it off, because, well if that's required... damn....

Then taking it out to use anywhere between 30min and 8 hours later, and it would be completely drained.

Unfortunately, it might be required to power it down completely.  Some of the audio hardware may continue to consume power even if the player app is exited.  This has been observed with some other Android based players.  But that seems inordinately fast to drain the battery completely when in sleep mode, even for this type of device.  Definitely sounds like a power management problem.

Hey Everyone,

So, please understand that I am not trying to cast shade on anyone here, but I do not want people worrying about things we have already found a solution for, or things we are working on solutions for. There seems to be a lot of discussion regarding the wood cracking, battery issues and WiFi noise, but as I have addressed in quite a few posts, we are fully aware of these issues and are working on solutions. Please, don't be stressed out, we have you covered and are going to make sure everything is taken care of! :)

I think it might be helpful for me to list the issues we are currently aware of. So far this is what we know of as well as where we are in the process of fixing it:

1) Wood Cracking (Solved)
2) WiFi Noise (Solved)
3) Click Sound (Partially Solved)
4) Battery Issues (Solved)
5) Noise Floor (Working On Solution)
6) SD Card Issues (Partially Solved)
7) BT Playback Issues (Partially Solved)

I will be addressing this list in much further detail this weekend during our Explorer discussion, but in the mean time I hope this helps shed some light!

The take away here is that things are going very well, and we are very confident :)

Hi Sam are these solutions that can/will be applicable to the explorers out now or to ones that will be coming out later on?

Hi Sam are these solutions that can/will be applicable to the explorers out now or to ones that will be coming out later on?

These will be on the new, updated units, but will not be able to be applied to the ones that are currently in your hands. There are some software updates that can be applied to fix a few issues, such as the home button, but for the others, such as the battery and wifi issues, those will require an updated unit. As stated before, though, anyone who is wanting to replace their unit for an updated one is welcome to do so, free of charge. We will cross that bridge once we are there, though, as we will want to make sure there is a process in place for that to work out smoothly. :)

That is really nice to hear!

Glad you are solving the issues and looking forward to a fault free unit :)

Will you contact the original backers that are experiencing problems, or should we just shoot you an email within the next few weeks to get things started?

I posted this in the CanJam SoCal thread as well, but figured I would ask here as well. We are looking to hire 2 people for the show to work our booth. Would anyone here like to work for us for the weekend? The pay is pretty great :) If you are interested, please PM me!

I think (could just be deep wood grain) I see four cracks in the wood along the bottom of ElMariachi's player (two dead center, two right corner). My player has two cracks--one appeared after I got the player, one was there when I got it. Trager's player has a crack in the same spot as mine, apparently. I don't think June is happening folks. The front fascia is too thin--these kind of cracks aren't due to the device being wood, they are due to the wood not being strong enough to absorb structural stress. ElMariachi's player, if my eyes are right, has two cracks in the right corner of the screen. My player developed a crack in the top right above the screen.

When I initially emailed Sam about this (I had one crack at the time) he noted that all the players that had cracks had them in the same location as mine, but now we are seeing cracks in the corners of the screen too. I think they may end up needing to recall these, as cracks can develop, and there is no telling whether they will widen over time. If @ElMariachi
has even two of his (potential) cracks worsen a chunk of the front fascia could just fall off. This isn't wood as a craftsman's material, a material with character, this is an engineering flaw. The bridge below is not sound, neither is the Explorer front fascia design. Let's hope it takes less time for Echobox to fix it. The problem is that in order to fix it the top and bottom plates also likely need to be be made larger, which makes the cases need to be larger, and the docks need to be larger and whatever wood they have already machined need to be tossed and redone. This looks like a pretty darn costly mistake. Luckily, they haven't done a big production run yet, so this can be fixed at a lower cost than if they had just sent out all pre-orders.

Feel free to contradict me if my eyes are wrong, @ElMariachi
. There really shouldn't be any cracks--I don't care if it is an artisan material. If I got a Meze 99 Classic with a crack like I have below my screen, I'd have a replacement in hand already.

My pic, is in the link here. This is one of two cracks.

Sorry about the late reply! I think most of what you're seeing is wood grain, but there is definitely a crack near the bottom right corner. I haven't worried about it much because I figured if it became an issue, Echobox would take care of it. I think its fair to give them a chance to correct the issues we are having before I start throwing tomatoes(my tomatoes have rocks in them) ha! :p. In all seriousness all the issues are pretty annoying. The explorer just isn't ready for everyday grab and go use. I expected a fully functional DAP. It didn't happen but lets see what happens. Im still rooting for you Echobox!

Thanks buddy, we won't let you down :) Check above in the thread for some updated info, I think you will be happy to get some fresh insight to the bugs you have been experiencing.

Hey all, great news! I just received an updated test APK file from USB Audio Player Pro, and it would appear that the Bluetooth issues have been solved! Hurray! One more in the bag, let's see what tomorrow brings :)

That's very encouraging @makethemusic , thanks for the re-assurance, I needed that!

It sounds like the SD card issue is the main remaining hurdle?

Can those who already have their Explorers get the new UAPP APK if they want to try it?

BTW, I'm curious what the fix for the cracking wood is, can you expand upon that?

I'm very glad things seem to be working out, can't wait to hear more.

Awesome! :)

I will speak with Davy, Mr. UAPP, and see if the APK is good for public consumption yet or if he has a few more tweaks to make.

For the wood, the long story short is that we retooled the metal frame, and also retooled the wood CNC process, and the results have been very promising. In full transparency, though, we are still experiencing some issues with Mahogany, and are working on further solutions for this wood in particular. It would seem that Mahogany just doesn't like to work with us :/ We will find a solution, though, so please don't worry! :)

From as best as I can tell, I think you're correct about his player and the cracks. The ones on the right look more ominous. If players are having the chassis cracking during production or early in life in the users' hands, this is serious. In fact it's crisis time.

I have another theory about why the Explorer was developed and what will be it's ultimate fate, but it's not a good scenario and at this time I have no evidence or proof, so I won't state it here. The one thing I will say is that it isn't good for anyone who spent money on this thing.

Oh you are such a tease...

Hi Sam

If you are having to re-CNC the wood panels to fix the wood issue, is there any chance I can get a blank back or Ebox logo on mine rather than the inscription I previously chose (which was remarkably uninspired), or are you still able to work with the existing wood you made for the IDGG backers?
