I found this app extremely useful for me as a headphone enthusiast using a computer as a source. Though Pushbullet is not directly related to this hobby, it fulfills one function I consider very important to me as a headphile which helps me stay aware of what's going on - it shows all the notifications from my android devices in my browser on my PC. While I listen to music through my headphones and I'm away from my phone or just can't hear it ring, the app notifies me of any incoming SMS and whatsapp messages (whatsapp messages can be viewed and replied via an additional addon that costs about 2$ and called Quick Reply for Pushbullet) and lets me view and reply them from within the browser. It also notifies me of any incoming calls in real time.

If you won't find this app useful or helpful, I bet your wife or girlfriend will praise it. Mine sure does.

*I'm in no way affiliated with Pushbullet nor I've been paid to advertise this app. I just think it's awesome and extremely helpful.

Nope. But unlike Pushbullet it does not require your Android phone to be rooted. I guess that's the tradeoff. I haven't tried it, I have some friends who have had difficulty getting the WhatsApp portion of Pushbullet to work. I'm not sure if it's a problem with them, or the app.

I had no trouble making it work and installation was a breeze.

Maybe my friends are tecnoidiots, then, lol. I'm not about to root my phone (seems to complicate my life when I root because the phone gets used in three countries with three providers). But for those who use Whatsapp and are willing to root, your recommendation sounds like a good one. I was simply mentioning Mysms as an alternative. I have no ties to the app or service, other than being a happy customer.

I don't think that rooting your device is going to complicate your life in any way, only make it easier thanks to all the helpful apps that can be installed on rooted devices. But I'm in no way pressuring you into rooting your device, especially if it is still under warranty or something. I'm just being me - a hacking addict. I just have to hack and root any device I own, being it a cell phone, tablet or a DAP.

By the way, a friend of mine suggested another app that handles SMS via Chrome browser - Mightytext.

I have rooted a few phones. the problem, at least with my Samsungs, is that rooting seems to impair the ability to deal with updates that are sometimes issued at different times and in different versions in different countries. i use a different chip/provider in each of three countries--Brazil, Canada and the U.S. It created a huge mess for me with my last phone. Leaving the phone unrooted seems to squelch the problem. Don't ask me why. I don't have a clue.

If you choose to root your phone you're suppose to cancel all OTA updates or else it is going to mess up your phone.
