Hi
i recently bought a pair of grado rs1i i think mine should be one of the last rs1i produced. From what i see mine headphone have some things that should be on rs1e:
The drivers are red
The drivers go out to the mogany cup

is this normal in all the rs1i? or it's like this because mine are like a "transition model"?
bye

A few weeks before Grado introduced the "e Series" they already incorporated the upcoming changes into the old models. This so people who recently bought an old i-model would not feel bad about the introduction of a new series shortly after their purchase. So in that sense yours is a transition model.

I have a red driver transition SR 60i.

However, it appears that there is split between those who prefer the "real" RS-1i and those liking the RS-1e better.  This divide seems to be larger than that for any other Grado model.

now i would be curious to listen a real i series. Btw I also have an sr60 (not the i version, the old one) and I can say that the rs1i/e have the same sound signature

I have the RS 1, RS 1i and RS 1e.  You certainly can tell that they are family, but also the differences between them.  The 1e have the most bass.  Yet subject to more testing, I like the 1i the best overall.

I have purchased my RS1i in April 2014:

And they have all of the RS1e features, but lacks the 1/8" plug. Those are my first RS1 cans so I can not write about the sound diference.

If you listen to the real i series, you'd see that the i and the e are very different... From the Grado FC and the Grado e series thread, I'd say that only about 20% people prefer the RS1e. But don't mind what others say, if you enjoy your RS1i/e, congrats!
